Obama confers with Democratic leaders on debt (Never believe a lying Rat)

President Barack Obama conferred with Democratic congressional leaders at the White House Sunday night over the political stalemate that has prevented the government from raising the $14.3 trillion limit on its borrowing.

Faced with an Aug. 2 deadline — the day the government exhausts its borrowing authority — Senate Democrats have designed a plan to require $2.5 trillion in deficit reductions over ten years while giving Obama the 17 percent increase in the borrowing limit that he is seeking.

The plan would rely on spending cuts and would not include tax increases.

News of Obama's meeting came as Boehner was telling GOP members in a late Sunday afternoon conference call that no accord on raising the borrowing limit had yet been reached.

Boehner told Republicans that "there is a path" to cut spending and raise the debt ceiling, but it will require his party to accept sacrifices, according to two sources who heard his message.

He told Republicans he is drafting legislation that reflects the principles of a strict spending-cut bill that failed in the Democratic-controlled Senate last week.

Republican leaders had earlier said they wanted to show progress by 4 p.m. EDT Sunday, before trading got under way in Tokyo, Shanghai and other East Asian financial markets.

What sacrifices exactly, Speaker Boehner?

They think we are stupid with no memory.

When, ever, has a promised “spending cut” ever happened?

Raising the debt limit has an immediate effect. Raising taxes is done by statute. But the budget, per the Constitution, is annual, so a spending cut “ten years from now” has no standing.

‘Caveman’ Boehner scares me. I am afraid he is going to give all obamma wants, which will help obamma re-election campaign. Boehner will then declare victory, saying sacrifices had to be made by both parties, but he was able to get the better deal. Anything less that total victory is a loss.

He told Republicans he is drafting legislation that reflects the principles of a strict spending-cut bill that failed in the Democratic-controlled Senate last week.

That would be CCB. And it didn't fail in the Senate. It wasn't voted on - it was tabled.

DeMint said last week that he thought CCB could pass this week.

I think that's where we're headed. CCB. McConnell will peel a handful of Dems and voila.... on to the desk for either a signature or a veto. That's what I'm talkin' about.

0bama’s annual debt is $1,500 Billion per year
Pelosi offers 250 Billion of savings per year.

I guess Pelosi, Schumer, Durbin, Biden plan to make up the difference from their own stash.

It’s worse than that - the “cuts” are just slower growth in spending and the cessation of wars. No real cuts whatsoever.

This is going nowhere.

The devil is definitely in the details. I just went over to Huffington Post to see the kooks reaction. They are equally split between anger, dismay, and absolute freak out with 0zer0 and Reid. They see this, especially no taxes, as a complete cave to the Repubs and the Tea Party. We just need to keep holding firm and pouring it on until they are completely defeated at their own Waterloo.

There is no reason for Republicans to sacrifice. We are always the ones who sacrifice. Someone needs to tell Boehner to QUIT TALKING. The person who loses in a negotiation is the one who RUNS HIS MOUTH. The only statement the Speaker should make is this. “ The House has detailed and passed its written plan and it was tabled in the Senate. We eagerly await the White House and the Senate’s written plans.” END OF STATEMENT. STFD STFU. Damnation. Why do they have to keep flapping their yap?

FOX said Biden was in attendance. I figure he was sitting at the far end of the table while picking his nose and drawing pictures on the polished tabletop with his “picking finger”.

I seem to remember when Bush (the Elder) raised taxes, he thought he had negotiated a cap on spending with Congress. Once he signed the tax increase, the Democraps cancelled the spending caps.

“Why do they have to keep flapping their yap?”

On the contrary, I think our problem is that we’ve usually remained quiet far too long, without ever fighting back. GW made the mistake of not speaking to the slanderous, hateful rhetoric - which backfired on him AND US, delivering an ‘08 victory to the Evil One and a huge blow to our country.

Day after day the American sheeple are bombarded with BHO’s righteously indignant speeches, pressers, “town halls” and a steady diet of media propaganda by leftist writers/commentators, tv/radio ads demagogueing the Republicans, Tea Party, and terrifying the old folks - yet we don’t fight back ourselves with ads, speeches and various forums to educate people in the truth.

Too many people today view silence as affirmation or agreement. I think people like Ryan, Boehner and others are concise. But speak they must - present the real facts and take their case to the American people - over and over and over. I think then, a surprising number of them would finally get it.

I see your point. I just wish that when they put the ball in Obamalamadingdong's court, they wouldn't jump the net to help him return serve.
