Meet the Man Accused of the Utiya Shootings
Reason ^ | July 22, 2011 | Jesse Walker

From The Daily Mail:

The 32-year-old Norwegian man arrested for gunning down children on the holiday island of Utoya has been named locally as Anders Behring Breivik.

Described as 6ft tall and blond, he is reported to have arrived on the island of Utoya and opened fire after beckoning several young people over in his native Norwegian tongue.

Reports suggest he was also seen loitering around the site of the bomb blast in Oslo two hours before the island incident - and also before the capital's explosion.

More than 30 are believed to have been killed - seven in Oslo and between 25 to 30 on Utoya Island, 50 miles north of the capital.

Breivik's alleged Facebook page is here, and he now has a presence on Wikipedia as well. According to the Daily Mail, the police are saying the killings "do not appear to be linked to Islamist terrorism." I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more in the next few days about Breivik, his motives, and his possible accomplices.

Update: The authorities are now reporting a death toll of at least seven in the bombing and 80 -- yes, 80 -- on Utøya.

Update #2: Breivik reportedly left a host of comments on the Norwegian website document.no, and they have been collected here. The Norwegian-American libertarian Lene Johansen has been posting useful summaries of those statements on her Twitter feed; there is also Google's translation of the page, which is fairly clear though not necessarily reliable in every detail. Breivik appears to be deeply opposed to Islam, immigration, and multiculturalism, and he believes libertarians are soft on the multicultural menace.

Some more roundup-

According to Swedish website Expo Anders Behring Breivik is a member of ‘Nordisk’ which has 22,000 members and focuses on political terrorism.

was a member of a Swedish nazi forum which encourages attacks on government buildings.

The Norwegian daily Verdens Gang QOUTED A FRIEND as saying Breivik became a right-wing extremist

Often, the extremes in Europe are communists on the left and fascists on the right.

So, an “extreme right wing” individual in Europe is not always an “extreme right wing” individual in America. That’s important to note

So he belongs to the swedish nazi party that believes in attacks on government buildings , sounds like adolph obammas best friend bill ayers.

And or corrupt media will never tell us the truth. Or theirs.

What more proof would there be that he acted alone?

"Fascists are Lefties, too."---So I always thought. Tell that to a lib/progressive and you will get an argument like the article that Communists are lefties and Fascists are right wing extremists.

Can someone with a handle on why the libs think that please chime in? Both take freedoms; both have govt. totally in control of business (though in Fascism, there is some private ownership with close govt. supervision, while in Communism the govt. owns everything); in short, both are statist govts.

The closest I ever came to winning an argument with an Ivory tower, Ivy leaguer, was when one explained that everything is on a straight line continuum, with Communism at left tip and Fascism far right. I said, "Aha! When you bend the line and make a circle, Communism and Fascism are right together. But you cannot win an argument with the left--conservatives just aren't that smart (in lefties' opinion), and facts are only checkers to be moved around the board.

Glenn Beck explained it best ,,, Liberals , Progressives , Commies , Facists and Leftists all have one thing in common and that is they believe more government being the answer while the Right Wingers , Conservatives , Libertarians and such believe in less govt. The extreme Left is Communism and the extreme Right is Anarchy .

The political spectrum meets at the ends, it’s more of a circle.

The extreme left believes in anarchy as well. It’s very far on the left. The believe total government control will lead to a stateless system of communal rule without any real leadership.

The methods are very different but the ends are similar. This is why I’m not a libertarian at all, but a bit right of center.

The extreme Left will USE anarchy to achieve a goal it’s true , but a totaltarian govt. is their absolute objective , while the total absence of govt. will create the breeding ground for anarchy . That’s the Dif.

Yasser ZArafat got the Nobel Peace Prize for exactly the same thing...

It appears they found their next nominee.

Just wanted to add: The AUF (who were camping on the island) and the Fatah Youth are two peas in a pod. ‘Comrades’. Ran across this blog:

An anti-Israeli demonstration on January 10, 2009. In the picture, Minister of Finance Kristin Halvorsen,(the blonde woman in the left of the picture) is posing next to a poster saying "USA and Israel the biggest axis of evil". http://www.janhoo.com/blog/2009/03/norwegian-newspaper-misinterpreting.html#comments

So, an “extreme right wing” individual in Europe is not always an “extreme right wing” individual in America.

Now, that must be true. I just don't see why anyone would target children - right or left wing. It will be interesting to find out what 'result' he had in mind other then killing children.

I would disagree, they were not moderates. The Articles of Confederation show what the target was initially from which they adjusted slightly to the left and as such suggests and I would agree that they were not trying to balance anarchy with totalitarianism as you suggest but rather they wished a government to protect the individual from the mob while at the same time assuring a government that did not become the tool of the mob which would be far right, to the left of anarchy e.g. as close to anarchy as possible while still maintaining moral order and protecting individual unalienable rights.

Frankly, you're wrong in your opinion.  If you ever read The Federalist Papers or even the Constitution for that matter, you would understand that the Framers were nowhere near being tolerant, squishy moderates, which is what "slightly right of center" is.
