The Statist Call-for-Civility Con
The New American ^ | 7/15/11 | Selwyn Duke

When I hear today’s frequent calls for civility, I’m reminded of Rodney King’s plaintive appeal, “Can we…can we all get along?” After all, King was a thug but, when he made his statement, seemed wholly sincere. This means that most contemporary political figures who call for civility share one certain commonality with King.

One of those who likely was sincere was Betty Ford, who has managed to make such a call from beyond the grave. Laid to rest this week, she had instructed two statists, Cokie Roberts and Rosalynn Carter, to send a message about conservative incivility. Writes Michael Kimmitt at American Thinker, "Mrs. Ford wanted me to remind everyone of the way things used to be in Washington," said Roberts…. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if she timed her death to make sure she could convey the message of comity during this week when it seems so badly needed."

Messages of comity sound nice, but how did things really “used to be in Washington”? Well, Kimmitt points out that Robert’s own father, Congressman Hale Boggs:

took to the House floor in 1971 to eviscerate the FBI, condemning it for adopting “tactics of the Soviet Union and Hitler's Gestapo.” An angry President Nixon, himself the recipient of much Democrat love, called Mr. [Gerald] Ford to complain. “What's the matter with your opposite number?”

The author is so right. Conservatives must stop pulling their punches in the name of 'civility.'

Conservatives must stop pulling their punches in the name of 'civility.'

And yet, already the media is attacking Herman Cain for NOT pulling his punches, saying that people won't vote for him if he actually spits out the truth.

. . .to send a message about conservative incivility. . .

I have serious doubts that Mrs. Ford said anything at all about "conservative incivility". She may have mentioned incivility in general.

If she did specifically mention conservatives, then I'm willing to write such a nonsensical comment off to her age and infirmity as well as "coaching" from the two women she supposedly said this to.

The former Betty Bloomer was every bit as much an amoral airhead in her prime as in old age. She was an inveterate pro-abort and social issue revolutionary. That she chose the likes of the equally social issue revolutionary Iron Magnolia (Roslyn Cahtuh) and Cokie Roberts to speak for her is no accident. See what you can find about her 60 Minutes interview with Morley Safer and Bill Buckley's hilarious reaction back in about 1975 or 1976.

The improvement of the GOP in recent decades was directly proportional to the purging of the likes of Betty Ford and her useless husband from influence in GOP ranks. Ms. Ford had the same motivation in trashing alleged conservative "incivility" as Establishment "ruling class" whores generally have had in trashing Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin over their respective refusal to genuflect before "ruling class" social revolutionary support for abortion, homosexuality, other perversions and the fact that they dare have beauty and personality and use terms like "You betcha!" and wink mischievously as they speak.

Cokie Roberts is a real piece of work. An aristocrat in the worthless MSM. She needs to shut her trap and doesn’t need a new Volvo every year !

The MSM elitists and the liberal democrat elitists are so in bed with each other. Such a vile combination ! MSM, such lap dogs to the tyrant wannabe’s.

I remember how Cokie got her panties in a bind on the alternative media providing information and getting around the MSM gate-keeping.
