The Betrayal of Michele Bachmann (Who are these chatty but anonymous "former aides"?)
National Review ^ | 07/20/2011 | David French

Posted on 07/20/2011 7:14:34 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Among the more disgusting aspects of Washington life and politics is the anonymous attack by “former aides.” About the only thing that can be said for certain about such attacks is that they’re cowardly. As for their veracity? Their anonymity makes them immune to further questioning and renders us incapable of discerning whether they even had the access or first-hand knowledge they claim. All we’re left with are rumors — rumors elevated to national attention because they’re reproduced in reputable outlets.

Last night it was Michele Bachmann’s turn to be eviscerated by “former aides.” The Daily Caller reported (and Drudge picked it up) that she suffers from — wait for it — headaches.

Apparently these former aides (medical doctors, no doubt) believe she’s “incapacitated” by migraines and this makes them “terrified” about her condition if she’s president.

Terrified? What magnificent patriots they are! What a public service they’re performing! If only these brave defenders of the Republic would identify themselves so that we can ask them a question or two. For example, you say that she’s “incapacitated,” but in one of your lurid examples despite her headaches she actually “managed to attend several events in California, including an appearance before a California chapter of the Eagle Forum and a fundraiser in Palm Springs.”

Does “incapacitated” mean what you think it means? Or, if your definition of “incapacitated” includes trips to “urgent care centers” (a fancy name for a walk-up clinic), what do you have to say about this list of presidential ailments? If these aides get the vapors from a migraine or two, I’m glad they’re off her team. After all, presidential politics is tough stuff, and we can’t have excitable, backstabbing aides lurking around — ready to betray their boss for the thrill of a Drudge hit.

Exactly one week ago, I wrote that Michele Bachmann should prepare for the Sarah Palin treatment. As Glenn Stanton noted today, the Left is coming after her with its customary class, accusing her husband of being gay. But now anonymous conservatives have bared their claws. I suppose such betrayals are inevitable in politics, but they are still intolerable.

One thing is certain, however, I prefer a headache-suffering Michele Bachmann to a bike-riding President Obama. And it’s not even close.

Funny how virtually no one remembers the Obamaloon in school, in university, or even in Chicago.

And we know that plenty of people do.

And those people know that Obama is an idiot.

Preferring her to Obama is a no brainer.

If you've ever seen anyone who has to handle migraines in an ongoing way, you have to know this is a disqualifier. You can't have the CIC under heavy medication all the time. "Madame president, Iran has just sent missiles to Israel" "Oops, she's incapacitated right now, just wait a few hours"

She's a great conservative congresscritter, but she needs to give this one a rest.

It's not limited to Congress. Beware the former aide who wasn't promoted as high as his ego thought he should go - a prime example being Frank Bailey, whose attacks on Palin way exceed this attack on Bachmann.

My gut feeling is that the Romney people are behind this.

Congressional staffers should have to be graduates of the universities in the state of the member who employees them.

I thought I had limited my response to just the first sentence of the article.
I specifically strove to NOT show regard for ANY candidate....only to put forth my view of Congressional staffers.
But NO. Immediately a “my favorite got hurt worse” post appears.

This is EXACTLY why I DO NOT post ANYTHING on Palin threads.

Have a nice day.

What is your problem? I pointed out Frank Bailey as an example that former staffers in general can be problematic. Palin just happened to be who he worked for. I’m sure we can find former staffers for all candidates who have either already backstabbed or are just waiting for the right opportunity to do such.

What was that about in the Comments section, following the NR column, that a Bachman guy strong armed a reporter and that a Tea Party candidate should not do that?????

We are going to have to stick together for the sake of all our candidates, except Romney. We can argue among ourselves but, really, we need to circle our wagons together against the Leftist press.

Lets all prick our finger and shake hands as blood brothers/sisters. Ha! %;o)

” My gut feeling is that the Romney people are behind this.” <<<

Now that’s a good guess. I haven’t heard a thing from Romney himself on anything. What’s he doing but bundling money and dumping over conservative red states entirely. He is really quiet.

I think it’s just politics 2011. Neither party knows how to fix the economy, and haven’t really known for the last 20-30yrs. All they can do now, instead of running ong solutions, is to trash the other side and make sure so and so doesn’t get elected/re-elected.

Hadn’t thought about that. So rollins is working for Bachmann, only so he can sabotage her?

I’m always suspicious when a reporter sites “unnamed sources”.

The Daily Caller took a minor, mildly interesting story - she gets migraines some times - and blew it up into a grotesque lie - she is incapacitated for days.

Everyone should keep this episode in the back of their minds when they read anything from this disreputable site.

I think the "media" onlygo after former aides of Repubs. Publicizing dirt on Demos will get them ostracized from their fellow "media" pukes.

i agree. but, few others here do.

and Migraines should NOT disqualify her !

but “Romney people” are NOT behind this.
Bachmann’s OWN spokesperson, ADMITS the migraines,
which they previously kept secret.
(and, she refused to answer about the hospital stays for it.)

again, i disagree that migraines are a disqualifier.
i’m ok with that. but, medical issues like this,
are legitimate questions. and Bachmann once again,
was not above board.
she should be honest, and put things like this out there.
if she did it herself, she could put a better “spin” on it.
but hiding it, and refusing to answer fair questions,
make her look deceitful at best.

before Rollins, she had a reputation as a straight shooter.
but just in the past month, there have been numerous things that came out, after she made statements in her own words to the contrary.

yes, we should defend ALL conservatives against false made up statements by the liberal media.
and if ANY candidate says something, from their own mouths, that is proved untrue by their own tax returns, etc.,
we should be able to discuss it honestly. true?

and this is unacceptable, whether it is Coakley, or Hillary, or one of our own:

I read the link on the “handler”. Thanks. But again you’ve got the Washington Post on the story, of all people, describing the roughing up. I am just saying that the job of the lefty media is to try to set our hair on fire to
divide us. I am disappointed when it works.
