Can somebody explain Perry’s work as Al Gore’s campaign manager in Texas?

Has Perry repudiated Gore since?

And if Perry hasn’t, why won’t he?

The Perry fans will claim that Al Gore was a "conservative Southern Democrat" at the time, which is a gross exaggeration. He was a phony and the punk son of a sleazy career politician who took money from fellow-traveller and Stalin fan Armand Hammer.

Even more disturbing than the Gore issue is the way Perry, this so-called "Christian social conservative" supported Rudy Giuliani for President in 2007, then switched to notorious RINO McCain when Rudy dropped out.

Yes. To all the above. Recall also that Gore was once prolife.

Perry backed Gore in 1988 in the Dem primaries. Perry was a Dem in his 30’s. He has actually publicly made fun of ALgore since.

......."During his time in Congress, [Al] Gore was considered a "moderate" (he referred to himself as a "raging moderate") opposing federal funding of abortion, voting in favor of a bill which supported a moment in silence in schools, and voting against a ban on interstate sales of guns. His position as a moderate (and on policies related to that label) shifted later in life after he became Vice President and ran for president in 2000…”…… Source

Rick Perry: Al Gore's gone to Hell

Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.

On September 7, 2007 Perry gave a speech to California Republicans. He said, "Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won't read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story."

Not really a big Perry fan, but I really don't care about something the guy did in 1988.

Of course he’s repudiated Al Gore since then. Did you REALLY think he wouldn’t have?

“According to news reports at the time, many conservative Texas Democrats put stock in Gore’s campaign, among them former Gov. Dolph Briscoe and then-House Speaker Gib Lewis, who flew to Washington to endorse Gore.”

“Later, Perry said he found out Gore was far from a real conservative.”

“Going through that (Gore experience) was part of what started me through the process of changing parties in 1989,” Perry said. “I came to my senses.”

More recently:
“Late last year, Perry revisited his disagreement with Gore over man’s impact on global warming. Suggesting he’d seen the light on the climate issue while Gore had drifted into darker territory, Perry joked: “I certainly got religion. I think he’s gone to hell.”

Fault him for backing Al Gore in 1998, when Perry was still a democrat and Al Gore was the most conservative democrat in the race. But don’t pretend he still supports Al Gore today.

Can somebody explain Perry's work as Al Gore's campaign manager in Texas

Yes, it was the election cycle of 1988. Al & Tipper Gore of Tennessee were famous DEMOCRATIC CONSERVATIVES, believe it or not. Perry was also a conservative democrat at the time. (So was I.)

Al and Tipper came to the nation's attention for their war demanding labeling of violent and sexual movies and songs and they spoke conservative Christian language the entire step of the way.

Wiki puts it like this:

According to CNN, Gore ran his campaign as, "a Southern centrist, [who] opposed federal funding for abortion. He favored a moment of silence for prayer in the schools and voted against banning the interstate sale of handguns."[5] In addition, CNN notes, "in 1988, for the first time, 12 Southern states would hold their primaries on the same day, Super Tuesday. Gore thought he would be the only Southern candidate. He had not counted on Jesse Jackson."[5]

Gore began to criticize Jackson for his Mid-East policies.[6] In particular, "Albert Gore Jr. assailed Mr. Jackson's foreign policy views yesterday and said he was 'dismayed' by Mr. Jackson's 'embrace of Arafat and Castro'." [7] Jackson responded by stating that, "The issue is not whether the Israelis and Palestinians are moral equivalents. Both of them are human beings and both are trapped in the cycle of death and pain. And they are trapped in the cycle of mutual annihilation. I wanted to offer leadership that will move from mutual annihilation to coexistence to break the cycle of death." [7] Gore was heavily criticized for his attacks against both Jackson and Dukakis.[8] Jackson also retracted some of his previous statements.[9]

I was alive in 1988, and I voted in 1988, and I gave the nod to GHWBush who eventually won election on a "no new taxes" pledge and a "Strong America" stance.

I distinctly remember Gore and his public, conservative image. No one at the time knew it was all a lie. Nor did fellow conservative democrat, Rick Perry.

So, we're talking about Gore presenting himself as an anti-abortion, pro-gun, pro-Israel, pro-prayer, pro-family, anti-hollywood, conservative democrat.

Once selected as Clinton's mate, Gore immediately toed the national democrat line. In fact, he appeared to embrace it as if liberalism had really been his belief system all along....which it probably, covertly had been.

Read this about what happened in Texas.

Texas' Reagan revolution

From the article: "The swing state that had voted for Democrats in four of the previous five presidential elections turned into a deep red one that has chosen Republicans for president eight straight times and does not have a single Democrat[ic] statewide elected official."

Senator Phil Gramm was also a democrat who switched to the Republican party and proceeded to win reelection more than once. A lot of Texans were dims long ago.

Has Perry repudiated Gore since?

Yes, there is a video clip posted on many Perry threads that I think is titled "Al Gore has gone to hell".
