The treasurer of the AFSCME union at the state Department of Labor and Industry drained the union's bank account of more than $13,000, a criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court alleges.

Carrie Christine Rohling, 42, of White Bear Lake told fellow employees in Local 2672 that she had a drinking and prescription drug problem. She was charged with two counts of felony theft.

"I know it was wrong for me to do that," Rohling said Friday when contacted by a reporter. "I was still thinking I could pay these guys back before they would even notice it was gone."

She was charged by a summons filed Thursday in Ramsey County District Court. Rohling said she moved recently and has not received the summons, which orders her to appear in court Aug. 15.

I’m confused.

Should I be upset that someone stole the money from the thieves that stole the money from us?

Do a computer search on your area with the word “embezzlement”. You would be amazed at the number of results that are returned. A lot of them are by employees of city, county, and other public entities. Private companies too, but they are far outnumbered by the cities, villages, counties, school districts and charities. A lot of these crimes are committed by women, and they really are not punished severely either.

Just shaking my head...

This is OK, she had more "need" for the money than the union guys, they should have willingly given it to her.

She did nothing wrong in assisting them in exercising their moral duty, they were obviously too busy obstructing their employer's ability to make a profit to attend to their duty to fellow traveler.

I wonder if this gal belongs to an office employees union?

Judges don’t want to send mommies to prison. Dads are a whole different ball game.

The only reason the union would be upset is that it is less money to give to democrats.

You missed it completly. First of all, She never set out to take money from the union fund. Sshe is a union member who has a serious addiction and second, she actually cared about what she did enough to intend to pay it back. She never set out to take money from the union fund

A conservative white man would have stole the money and meant to steal it.

After the alleged thefts, Rohling was removed from union leadership, said Michael Kuchta, a spokesman for AFSCME Local 5, an umbrella group over the smaller AFSCME locals such as the one Rohling belongs to. Kuchta estimated Local 2672 represents about 115 workers. ASCME stands for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
