Come to think of it, that is exactly what Obama is pushing for. His social security and default scare tactic is to get the Republicans to cave knowing that is his only chance of re-relection. The Republican base will abandon the party and the “anybody but Obama†votes will be split among Republican and Tea Party candidates. On the other hand, if the Republicans prevail in this fight Obama may lose some of his base but will take credit for any improvement in the deficit and economy. Still, I would rather see a NO to increasing the debt limit and the Republicans directing the Treasury to pay the debt, social security and medicare, and active duty soldiers first out of current revenues. We would have a balanced budget amendment without the amendment.
