"Why can you not get this deal?"
That was the attitude of CNN's Candy Crowley on yesterday's State of the Union. She acted like if only the Republicans were "reasonable" and accepted some "revenue" enhancements, then a deficit deal could be cut. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy set her straight on why the deal as presented was unacceptable. Oh, Candy tried and tried to make a deficit deal agreement seem reasonable but McCarthy kept knocking her assertions out of the ball park as you can see in the interview video below the fold. Candy led off by accusing House Speaker John Boehner of engaging in a "bargaining ploy" instead of serious negotiation. McCarthy hit that accusation out of the ballpark while simultaneously stressing the sad state of the current unemployment situation in this country:
CANDY CROWLEY: Joining me now to try to make sense of where things stand, House Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy of California. I just feel like we are -- if I am out there listening to this, I want to strangle all of you. Why can you not get this deal? This looks to me like a strategic bargaining ploy rather than where we're actually going to end up, from Speaker Boehner.
KEVIN MCCARTHY: Oh, I don't see that at all. Boehner has been very clear that there is no votes for a tax increase. And you look at the jobs data, it was only 18,000 jobs, Canada has fewer people than live in California, created more jobs than America.

While it’s nice to see a plain-looking woman hold a job on TV, she was no match for Rep. McCarthy, who had both facts and principle on his side. How embarrassing it must have been for her to see how pitiful her performance was, as she struggled to defend Obama and her fellow Democrats.
I’ve never heard of this guy - he rocks!

McCarthy did a nice job there.
Oh, I don't know, Candy. What would YOU give up? It seems you could stand to give up some dinners...
Unbelieveable how uninformed Candy is. The House has already passed a budget resolution laying out the changes to Medicare. The Dems have not produced a budget in over 800 days.
Sen. Obama, March 20, 2006 from Senate floor:
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising Americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government cant pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. Increasing Americas debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
Needs to be used, as a GOP talking point.
Candy is my favorite among the cnn libs. Smart, direct, often humorous...the whip was super at communicating the essence of Republican position.
You know, I’ve never had a problem with Candy, either. She’s a straight shooter, likely a lib, but has been around long enough to be jaded and not have any particular fondness for any politician or party. In that way, she reminds me of Tim Russert.
Kevin is our congressman and when he gets on a roll he rocks. When he took office I was kind of afraid of what he would turn out to be since he came from the Bill Thomas machine, and I despised Bill Thomas simply because he was the ultimate wheeler dealer.
Hopefully Kevin will stick to the lesser government mantra. You have to kind of watch him though. Of course you could say that about all of them.
Awesome job!
He did well. Then again, it was hardly a fair fight. He was up against a moron trying to defend the indefensible.
Smart as what? The woman is ignorant and biased.
I would be delighted to see Boehner just GET PISSED and unload on somebody!
I’m sick of the Speaker trying to be “political” and nice to everybody. Time for John to WALLOP THE SNOT out of some media type and start yelling!
"Kevin McCarthy and the GOP's Three Big Lies".
What do you think...?
