Obama: Time to "eat our peas" and pass debt deal ("rather be talking about stuff [like]...the NFL")
CBS News ^ | July 11, 2011 | Stephanie Condon

President Obama is still seeking the largest deficit reduction deal possible as part of a package deal to raise the debt ceiling, he said in a press conference today.

"I continue to push congressional leaders for the largest possible deal," he said from the White House. "It is possible for us to construct a package that would be balanced, share sacrifice [and] would involve both parties taking on their sacred cows."

(snip)

The president said today he would not accept a smaller, short-term deal. "We might as well do it now," he said. "Pull off the band aid. Eat our peas."

1:26 a.m. ET - "I feel pretty confident" Americans don't want U.S. to default on its debts, Obama said. He said some of the professional politicians know better than to say we shouldn't raise the debt limit.

"This isn't something I'm making up," Obama said. "I'd rather be talking about stuff everybody welcomes like new programs or the NFL season getting resolved. Unfortunately this is what's on our plate."

As I and others have said...he wants the office and the perks but not the job.

What an adolescent he is.

What is it about those two and their obsession with vegetables? An analogy with their voter base of what?

“Eat your peas?” Are you kidding me? Is Obama actually saying the GOP are kids because they will not do what he wants them to do? What arrogance.

Yes, he’s purposefully using language a parent would use with their child to make the GOP appear as insolent children.

Let them eat peas:

Folklore and Oddities

The French court became so enamored with green peas that in Paris in 1695 it was common practice for aristocratic women to make them a late evening snack between dinner and bedtime. From the court of French King Louis XIV, Madame de Maintenoy wrote to Cardinal de Noailles: “. . . There are some ladies who, having supped, and supped well, take peas at home before going to bed, at the risk of an attack of indigestion. It’s a fashion, a craze!”

Even kings are not immune to overindulgence—some are even well known for their gourmandising. After overindulging in peas, Louis XIV summoned his doctor to offer him relief from indigestion.

The other day he bragged that his daughters always have their homework done before it is due. The implication was that the GOP is worse than kids.

Of course, his kids dont have the RAT party and its RAT president blocking their every move. Big difference but lost on him.

Professional politicians are 100% responsible for the mess we are in. Not the rich, not the poor, not nobody else.

“Obama said. “I’d rather be talking about stuff everybody welcomes like new programs or the NFL season getting resolved. Unfortunately this is what’s on our plate.”

Does the Barry not realize we all understand that new programs means more spending? He doesn’t even make sense. Talking about deficit reduction and new programs in the same breath. The guy is delusional.
