DEPUTIES SEIZE ARSENAL (Weapons, ammo believed headed for Mexico)
Seguin Gazette ^ | 7/10/2011 | Felicia Frazar

GUADALUPE COUNTY — A Thursday night traffic stop ended with Guadalupe County deputies seizing a large cache of weapons believed to be Mexico bound.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Cpl. Clint Garza said a deputy stopped a black Ford truck for a traffic violation around 9 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 10 near the 604 mile marker.

The driver was hauling a trailer loaded down with plywood and wallboard, Garza said.

While taking to the driver, the deputy realized he was not being truthful and was given the OK to search the vehicle, Garza said.

“During the search the deputy located a false compartment in the load of materials that contained a large amount of weapons and ammunition,” he said. “It was found that approximately 67 semi-automatic weapons were located along with several thousand rounds of ammunition.”

Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke said it was evident the guns were not being shipped for recreational purposes.

“There is no telling what the weapons were destined for. No doubt they were not intended for a good thing,” he said. “They were not being transported for a sporting club or a hunting club.”

Garza said once the guns hit the border into Mexico — where deputies suspect the vehicle was headed — the price tag per gun could have doubled.

As the violence across the border continues, Zwicke said discovering a cache of weapons can make a difference.

“We are happy to take these guns of the street,” he said. “It’s a different world we live in. With terrorism and things going on in the U.S. and Texas, it’s scary.”

The truck, trailer, guns and ammunition were seized by the Sheriff’s Office.

The case remains under investigation.

“Look for “White House” on one of the return address cards”

And watch for the deputy to be charged in interfering with a scam perpetrated by Holder.

From the article: "The truck, trailer, guns and ammunition were seized by the Sheriff’s Office. "

The article doesn't make it clear, but I presume the driver was charged with "keeping and bearing arms".

...the deputy realized he was not being truthful and was given the OK to search the vehicle...

It seems to me this article leaves a lot 'unsaid' about what transpired between those two events.

Does anyone know what limit the state of Texas puts on the number of guns one is allowed to own and transport?

Sixty-seven is apparently too many.

Would the guy still have been arrested/accused if he’d been carrying 50? 25? 5?

The DOJ says they are providing all doc requests and continue their stonewall. A whistle blower was fired and the acting head of the ATF has spoken out proving DOJ therefore Obama is behind the worst crimes and obstruction imaginable and they send a letter like this...

Yep! No limits on handguns or long guns. If they are legal according to BATFE definitions - NO LIMITS and no licenses in Texas.

God Bless Texas!

Have they caught the BATFE agent(s) who supplied the guns?

More Kabuki theater to “prove” that American guns are “causing” Mexican violence. We are supposed to believe that someone with tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns and ammunition is expecting to get past the Mexican border guards/bribe collectors but is careless enough to get stopped for a traffic violation and then act guilty of smuggling? More likely that this was staged by the Obamunists as a lead up to the expected executive order establishing gun control.

3 of the 4 men in the vehicle were illegal aliens. The 4th was here on a ‘non-immigrant’ visa.

That’s what I thought. How, then, did law enforcement officials justify detaining this fellow and seizing his guns?

Please don’t misunderstand, I am NOT defending people who smuggle guns to Mexico; but it seems to me the depuites would have needed more evidence than that described in the article in order to justify their actions.

Of course, it would not surprise me at all to learn that the article is incomplete and was not well researched.

The answer to your obviously rhetorical question is that there is no limit - you can own however many firearms you'd like to own, and transporting them is no problem (though you can't carry a loaded long gun with you in the passenger compartment in cities or in close proximity to them - no problem in rural areas, though).

The problem with rooting for the ATF to be hung out to dry, and with it the people like Holder that authorized this scheme, is that we're rooting for the current gun laws to be enforced...i.e. against the 2nd Amendment. True 2nd Amendment suporters don't have a problem with themselves buying a gun for another person (a so-called "straw purchase"), which is at the heart of this scandal.

Personally, I'm hoping for a special prosecutor and the later defunding of the ATF (along with the destruction of its records database), but I know that such a situation will only occur when I have my eyes closed and it being dark outside. But one can at least hope that the perpetrators of this scheme, who have armed the cartels with weapons that have led to the murders of many hundreds or thousands of Mexican citizens as well as many in the US, will be brought to justice, and that their motivation - to further limit our meager gun rights - will be utterly discredited.
