If you guys really believe top level govt civil service workers are fat cats- why didn’t you enter the civil service?

Why stand on the sidelines and cast stones at people who chose a profession you could have chosen?

From where I sit the peopel who work in local city county and state government are better paid and have MUCH better benefits than federals.

I don’t get the envy.

Oh wait, it is ENVY

You know you could fire every fed or take 100% of their pay and it wouldn’t begin to touch the $14 Trillion deficit.

Because they're bloated fat cats whose livelihood revolves about making and enforcing rules to trip up and suppress actual wealth producers?

That's why I didn't follow in my elder brother's footsteps, anyhow.

probably because when i was in college and getting ready to join the workforce the person who occupied the WH was a man named Ronald Reagan- if you forgot he envisioned personal responsibility, limited gov’t....when Reagan made cuts to the student loan program i remember my dad saying, “he’s right- its’ not his job to pay for your college”....

anyway- this Reagan guy had a crazy idea that people should go out and make it on their own versus parasiting off taxpayers and crying poverty- the situation we are faced with today...

“From where I sit the peopel who work in local city county and state government are better paid and have MUCH better benefits than federals.”

I have noticed a trend among federal government workers in FR to down play their benefits. Federal benefits especially retirement compensation (both pension, 401K, and health care) equal or exceed the most generous state and local government plans. Federal government salaries have increased substantially in the last ten years with an especially large increase in six figure salaries in the last 5 years. Federal job security is legendary even in this recession. Federal workers have not received any furloughs or pay reductions as have some workers in the state and local government. The pay freeze proposed by Obama was phony, not touching the built-in step increases.

Reforming federal pay and benefits is an important step in deficit control. It will not obviously control future deficits by itself but it is an important part of long term deficit control contrary to your assertion. Federal pensions have 5+ trillion of unfunded liabilities with unfunded liabilities growing at $200 billion per year. Major reform of federal pensions is an absolutely essential part of long term deficity control. I would begin by major reductions to the unsustainable CPI-W (minus 1) COLA, eliminating the Social Security early retirement payments, and increasing the retirement age to Social Security age.

"You know you could fire every fed or take 100% of their pay and it wouldn’t begin to touch the $14 Trillion deficit."

1) Isn't firing every fed the same as taking 100% of their pay?
2) How would that not "begin" to touch the $14T deficit?
3) Are you really this stupid?
