I, for one, am very happy to have a Republican candidate explain how he (or she) disagrees with the disaster that was George W. Bush's "Compassionate Conservatism." Its not going after Bush, who is now out of office. Its making clear that he understands the disasters of the Bush years when it came to spending and entitlement expansion. I want a candidate who is going to say "No" to spending, period. And who recognizes that the "Compassionate Conservatives" of 2000 though 2006 set the stage for the Dems' and Obama's spending binge.

Obama certainly doesn't like the Photo ID that took Gov. Rick Perry 6 years to get passed.
Obama doesn't like a lot of things about Perry's politics or Texans for that matter.

Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.
On September 7, 2007 Perry gave a speech to California Republicans. He said, "Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won't read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story."

Well, it doesn't sound like he is "locking horns" with GWB - but he is trying to separate himself from some of GWB's less popular actions. I liked Bush for how he handled the War on Terror, and I think Bush is a genuinely good man. But I don't think he was as fiscally conservative as he should have been, and I think he was too much of a "big-government" conservative, if there is such a thing. It does not make Perry a RINO to make that distinction.
