Navarrette: On Latinos' likeability scale, the Texas governor barely registers

When it comes to opinions about the governor of Texas, being inside-the-Beltway sometimes means being out of touch.

The Washington Times gushed in a recent editorial:

"Rick Perry is having a good month. With all eyes on his possible bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the Texas governor is showing that his anti-Washington rhetoric is more than just talk. By vetoing feel-good, nanny-state regulations and thwarting of federal intervention in his state, he's demonstrating the kind of leadership America needs."

A good month? I take it that whoever wrote that editorial wasn't in San Antonio recently for the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. The hundreds of activists who attended the event gave a frosty reception to Perry, who was greeted by protesters outside the ballroom and then gave an abbreviated keynote speech before hustling out the door.

Well, if the radical hispanic activists don’t like him, he can’t be all bad.

Let’s all keep in mind that the radical activists don’t necessarily speak for all hispanics at large.

And lemme guess...the VAST majority of these “latino elected and appointed officials” are Republicans, right? Uh...right?

Puh-leeeeze.

National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

I thought we were colorblind in America? It makes you wonder how long whites will continue to play pretend?

Why doesn't someone run a survey on how much Americans like these invading, illegal, Latinos? They would probably get lower scores than Perry did.

It's the age-old, teenager, "you don't love me anymore" ploy, designed to induce guilt-trips on unprincipled Americans to give the Lations what they want. Teenagers invented it, blacks have been using it for decades, and now the Latinos, gays, feminists, CAIR, and a thousand other splinter, minority groups looking for special rights and a free ride are using it.

The thing that works best for this ploy with teenagers is to ignore the whining, and make them do their chores anyway.

Nah, they’re just like radical activists getting impatient with Obama whenever he feints to the center.

Really???? And on the likability scale Latinos are beginning to barely register. Don’t get me wrong, I love Americans of hispanic desent, but those who identify as Lations are Latino first and American second, if at all.

This white conservative doesn’t care much for him. Voted for him twice but didn’t have a choice. Hopefully, next time there will be a choice.

Part of the hustle. Like all thugs, you can never give them enough. The bullying and demands keep coming.

Perry comes off as weak to them. That means they can push him around - he gave them illegal alien in-state tuition in his first year in office.

What he's going to find is that they will never be satisfied until he literally surrenders Texas to Mexico - and lets Mexicans rule over Texas.

That's what they want.
