Bachmann Hits Romney Again for Not Signing Pro-Life Pledge
Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 6/28/11 10:21 AM

Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who announced her presidential bid on Monday, is hitting Mitt Romney again on his decision to not sign the pro-life pledge the Susan B. Anthony List put forward. As LifeNews.com reported, the Susan B. Anthony List unveiled the pledge recently and indicated Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul signed it. The pledge has the candidates promising to support only judicial nominees who won’t interpret the Constitution in a way that supports Roe v. Wade, select pro-life Cabinet members on positions affecting abortion policy, supporting legislation to stop taxpayer funding of abortions and Planned Parenthood, and to support a fetal pain bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Bachmann previously criticized the former Massachusetts governor for not signing a pro-life presidential pledge in comments following his decision. Her latest remarks on Romney’s decision come in an interview with David Brody of CBN News.

“This last weekend there was a National Right to Life Committee Convention and I had signed, happily, the Susan B. Anthony List pledge regarding being pro-life as president of the United States,” she told Brody. “I had issued a statement saying that I believed that all Republican candidates should sign that statement. Our party platform is pro-life, and I believe that our president also needs to be pro-life.”

Asked about her response to Romney, Bachmann said, “Well, I think particularly now, Governor Romney has stated that he is pro-life, I take him at his word but, he’s had some issues with that in his past, where he has taken various positions. This was a wonderful opportunity to sign the pledge and demonstrate that he’s pro-life. He chose not to. I think that’s troubling and I think that he should have signed the pledge.”

“I think that the voters will have to take a look at this,” Bachmann added in the interview. “I know for me, it’s very troubling. And I called on the Governor to sign the pledge because after all you can get a lot of things wrong; one thing that you cannot get wrong is the issue of life. That is a foundational issue in our nation and I think it’s important that our candidate for the presidency stand for life.”

Romney did not sign the pledge and his officials said it was because he worried the de-funding legislation would also revoke funding for hospitals, though the legislation currently pending in Congress does not do so.

Romney also released a pro-life statement of position at National Review, but Bachmann said originally that it is “distressing” that Romney did not sign the pledge.

The SBA List indicated pro-life businessman Herman Cain and pro-abortion former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson also did not sign the pledge. Cain has released his own statement on why not, saying he can’t advance the pro-life bills de-funding Planned Parenthood as a member of Congress, though he could certainly employ the bully pulpit of the presidency to do so.

Good. Hopefully this will shut up the people who constantly accuse Michele of being Romney’s shill. God, they are tiresome.

She’s swinging for the fences!

Whether Mrs. Bachmann gets the nod or not, she is doing a lot of good in exposing RINOs and pointing out the many problems of barry the zero.

She’s saying all the right things to the Romney boy. If Sarah doesn’t run, Michele’s got my vote.

Romney is a democratic party candidate who happens to be in the Republican Party. The sooner he disappears the better off we'll all be.

She's going to be under extremely heavy attack. More than likely, Hitlery Clinton doesn't have anything on her from the 1000 files Hitlery stole years ago . . . unless, of course, the illegal alien in our White House will allow Hitlery free access to the entire FBI file room.

Nothing would surprise me. If they think they've hated Sarah Palin, wait till we see what they try to do with this woman.

That POS Clinton thug, George Stephanopoulos, has already threatened to dig into each and every one of her foster children . . . that thug should be in prison with Hitlery for obstruction of justice and perjury during that God-awful presidency.

Can say the same thing about Huntsman. But he’s toast now that Axelrod came out and talked about all the great things Huntsman said about Obama.

Bachmann is toast methinks. Her campaign in-appropriately has used the Tom Petty song “American Girl” as a campaign theme song without even noticing that the words don’t fit-—and that’s the song the girl was singing in “Silence of the Lambs” before she’s abducted........and now Petty is suing....but WORSE!!! Bachmann also has claimed that she was born in the same hometown as John Wayne ——which is lame pandering for tough guy status....except that Wayne did NOT come from her hometown and was a FAKE movie tough guy-—BUT John Wayne Gacy the child murderer did live in Bachmann’s hometown, which merges nicely with the Silence of the Lambs/Senator’s daughter thing....!

Bachmann is toast methinks.....“Silence of the Lambs”.., John Wayne Gacy....

Since Stephanopolis has let the cat out of the bag that the MSM intends to destroy her, I am refusing to say anything negative about Bachmann on this forum again. (or at least until such time as she is sworn in as President)

The only caveat is if she starts hurling personal insults at Sarah Palin. (I don't think that will happen)

The MSM is committed to destroying conservative women in the same way the are committed to destroying conservative blacks.

If the MSM has declared war on our conservative women, we don't need to use this forum to carry their message.

I will limit my negative comments to committed RINOs like Romney.

He wants to “pretend” to be conservative, but he’s first and foremost like McCain a Republican (albeit not as bad), someone that is sorta conservative, sometimes, when it appears to be politically beneficial. He ensures to not take a stance on any issue that might be a bit questionable as far as the political cost vs. benefit is. In those cases he does the typical political thing and stay somewhat neutral, appeal to all sides and not let himself be defined as either for nor against something, i.e. abortion.

Pretty pathetic that people have to spam every thread with Ed Rollins. Why are Palin fans so obsessed about it? I’m sure Palin has long since gotten over it. But then she’s someone with class.

And what an idiot for saying he’ll work with Democrats. That’s the last thing primary voters want to hear.

I think it’s extremely counter-productive for conservatives to attack any viable conservative candidate simply to advance the cause of their favorite conservative candidate. We MUST look forward to the time when the candidate who is not our favorite will either run as president or vice president, and beyond that, if they aren’t the presidential nominee, then we must look at the time when they might run for Congress (House or Senate), Governorship, or some other office.

Why should we destroy people on our own side and make them unviable for future offices where we’d ache for a conservative to be running. Like it or not, Pawlenty did a good job as a governor, Bachmann has done a good job as a congresswoman, Perry has been a great governor, and Palin has been both a good governor and a great advocate of conservatism. What if Cain runs again?

Wouldn’t you far rather have folks like these in positions of responsibility than some rino or liberal democrat?

Bachmann was born in Waterloo, Iowa, but was not raised there.

I would call her words a mistake. She obviously had heard something about John Wayne associated with Waterloo that was wrong. She incorporated that wrong info in her memory some time in the past, and she repeated it in public, thinking that old info was correct.

Have you never made a statement based on wrong information?

We can choose to eliminate every candidate who ever makes an inconsequential wrong statement, or we can insist that every word they say be scripted.

Who is your favorite candidate?
