Anchorage Daily News: Poll shows Alaskans would vote for Obama over Palin
Anchorage Daily News ^ | 06/28/2011 | Sean Cockerham

Posted on 06/28/2011 6:06:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

A new Hays Research poll shows Barrack Obama would beat Sarah Palin among Alaskans if the presidential election was today.

The poll found 42 percent of Alaskan voters would pick or are learning toward Obama in a head to head race against Palin for the presidency, while 36 percent of the voters would choose or are leaning toward Palin over him.

Conservative Anchorage radio host Mike Porcaro paid for Hays Research to ask the question.

“Sarah Palin showcases her Alaska roots at every opportunity, but the surprising reality is she has become highly unpopular in her home state,” Porcaro said in an emailed statement.

“Whether it is the fact she left office after serving barely two years or that some Alaskans believe her tax policies have punished our vital oil and gas industry or the ‘rock star’ nature of her media coverage, these results show Sarah Palin would lose to Obama in Alaska, where voters overwhelmingly support conservative candidates,” Porcaro said.

Porcaro hosts an afternoon show on KENI AM and owns an Anchorage advertising agency.

Hays Research of Anchorage polled 500 Alaskans who voted in at least two of the four statewide elections. The poll was on June 21st and June 22nd.

It asked:

“Although it is some time from now, thinking about the election for President of the United States next year, if the election were held today and the candidates were Democrat Barack Obama or Republican Sarah Palin, for whom would you vote or are you undecided?”

Respondents who had “strong” views favored Obama 34 percent to Palin’s 25 percent.

In 2012 we need every single one. We may only win by one electoral vote.

RE: Do you know or did you check to find out if this poll was done by registered or likely voters?

_____________________________________________________________________________

They claim it is a survey of LIKELY VOTERS ( in their words -— 500 LIKELY ALASKAN VOTERS ).

SEE HERE : http://haysresearch.com/page2/page32/page32.html

This is all there is to their Survey Methodology

This survey was fielded on June 21st-22nd, 2011 as a means to measure attitudes towards candidates and races among likely Alaskan voters (defined as having voted in at least two of the last four local or statewide elections). 500 likely Alaskan voters were interviewed for each of the four surveys.

The margin of error for the data collected is +/- 4.4 % for a 500 response survey for the data analyzed in its entirety with a 95% confidence level; meaning that we can be 95% sure that if every resident of the State of Alaska with working telephone numbers who have at least one member who has voted in at least two of the last four local or state elections was actually surveyed, the results would vary by no more than 4.4% in either direction.

The survey sample used was a computer generated random list derived from a database of all households within the State of Alaska with working telephone numbers who have at least one member who has voted in at least two of the last four local or state elections. The sample frame was designed to accurately reflect the actual population percentages.
Respondents were screened to confirm they were over 18 and each household was attempted at least four times over a period of several days to account for non-response bias.

Data was analyzed utilizing SPSS Quancept Software.

Interviews were conducted by trained staff with on-site supervision utilizing state of the art computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). Random interviews were monitored to assure quality control measures were followed. Dialing results were analyzed daily to assure statistically accurate distribution of call disposition in order to account for “non-response” variables.

For purposes of disclosure, this poll question was survey was paid for in full by Porcaro Communications.

“Sarah Palin showcases her Alaska roots at every opportunity”

I wonder if they’re not jealous of her success, and that she’s no longer “the gal next door”? Just trying to reconcile this supposed poll with the unquestionably high favorable ratings she received as Governor.

Or is the entitlement mentality that strong in AK?
Maybe news travels slowly but those people who’d vote for Obama need to wise up or sober up.

And the union thugs telling voters the day before the election in a state owned building Murkowski is the only one who will help them - but they can decide for themselves. Right!

The nature of the PDSer

In a time not so very long ago, a man of logic, reason and rationality, upset by the injustice of the mindless and their baseless attacks upon his candidate of choice, did undertake a quest to discover the nature of the PDS’er.

And so did the man travel to the far corners of the Earth, for in his travels he could find no wisdom, nor wise man, to satisfactorily explain the root cause of Palin Derangement Syndrome, nor it’s effect on those so smitten. It was not until a chance encounter with a Zen Master high atop a remote mountain in Tibet that our hero found his answer.

“To discover the nature of the PDS’er,” said the Zen Master, One must understand the logic of why the sky is yellow.”

Confused by the sage words of the old wise man, our hero listened intently as the knowledge of the ages sprung forth from his old and weathered lips...

“To discover the nature of the PDS’er, One must understand the fact that dogs meow and cats bark at passing cars.”

“To discover the nature of the PDS’er, One must understand the reason why the sun shines brightly in the night sky.”

For what seemed like hours the Zen Master spoke thusly until finally our hero looked upon him and said “Master, dogs do not meow, nor cats bark. The sky is not yellow but blue and the sun shines in it by day, not by night. To spout such nonsense is neither logical, nor rational, nor factual. In fact, you’d have to be nuts to believe any of that!”

And so did our hero gain enlightenment into the nature of the PDS’er.

This ‘newspaper’ has been on Palin’s case for years. I am inclined not to believe anything they publish, and it strikes me as odd that a ‘conservative’ talk radio guy would commission such a poll.

Unless the Palin troops realize she can’t win and stop backing that dead horse, help find a serious candidate who can win were stuck with 4 more years of Obama, guaranteed!

only a Liberal, a RINO or some other elite would believe what you state. So many Freepers can't even begin to understand the threat Sarah poses to the left.

If nominating Sarah guarantees four more years of the Marxist then why the H*ll all the efforts to rabidly discredit her? Wouldn't it be to the left's advantage to work to get her the GOP nomination?

Only a fool or a PDSer could not see that the left knows Sarah will crush the Marxist.

If Mitt's or some other RINO is the nominee,I will gladly without guilt sit out the election. Mitt and the rest of the RINOcrats would do absolutely NOTHING to roll back government.

Alaska...3 electoral votes.

In 2000, the winning margin was five electoral votes.

Just saying.

Here is something that I picked up about "conservative" Mike Porcaro (who commissioned this poll) and how HE felt about Palin in 2008..

This poll and its 'ulterior' motive doesn't pass the smell test!

There is some 'salty' language in this, so please make sure you're over "18" before you read about this Porcaro dude.

Good grief, will it ever end? With Obama’s anti-drilling, anti-energy policies, do they really expect us to believe a state like Alaska whose economy sole depends on drilling and energy would vote for Obama????

I don’t buy it.

Hey - while you spill your bile - check out #9 and thanks for showing what you really are.

Please find us a serious, quality candidate we can vote in to replace Obama.

Never use 'us' or 'we' on this conservative site, again. Do your magical mischief somewhere else.
