Congressmen ask Clinton to protect Americans in flotilla
Jerusalem Post ^ | 6/28/2011 | Jordana Horn

Six members of the United States Congress wrote to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week, asking her to "do everything in [her] power" to help "ensure the safety of all American citizens on board The Audacity of Hope."

The Audacity of Hope is a US flagged ship bearing 36 American passengers intending to participate in this week’s flotilla to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. Its passengers include Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Alice Walker, former US ambassador to Ecuador Samuel Hart, and activist Hedy Epstein.

15 ships are expected to participate in the flotilla.

The six members of Congress to sign the letter regarding the American presence are Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich, Missouri Representative William Lacy Clay, California Representatives Sam Farr, Bob Filner and Barbara Lee, and District of Columbia Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton. Kucinich initiated the letter.

“We request that you do everything in your power to work with the Israeli government to ensure the safety of the US citizens on board,” the letter reads, saying that the signatories “urge all parties to practice maximum restraint and avoid violence.”

The Audacity of Hope’s organizers, the letter reads, have stated that their cargo "is open to international inspection" and that they "are fully committed to nonviolence and the tenets of international law".

The usual suspects.

If these idiots are "fully committed" to international law, they should realize that Israel is obliged to intercept this flotilla of fools.

"The Audacity of Hope is a US flagged ship"

Why is this ship a U.S. flagged ship?

I would imagine because if it is sunk, they want to use the image/video of a ship with the US flag going down as propaganda to drum up support for the anti-Israel crowd.

Exactly. I would expect it to be a UN flagged ship. ....or a hammer & sickle flagged ship.

It means that it’s registered in the United States.

And despite warnings from the State Dept., it sure sounds like the WH is egging these morons on.

I'm sure Code-Pinko Jodi Evans and her Jew-Hating posse will have front row seats.

Don't forget CNN and other journalist will be on this militant mission against Israel as well.

I hope our friend Israel sinks their fricking ship.

"It means that it’s registered in the United States."

I understand what it means. I'm asking why are we allowing this ship to be flagged by us? This means it is under our protection and we have a duty to ensure that it has safe travel on the world's waterways. We are we affording that protection to a bunch of terrorist lovers who want to provoke Israel?

Good point.

Here are the passengers and crew aboard the "Audacity of Hope": http://ustogaza.org/passengers-on-the-audacity-of-hope/

Full-time protesting commies, and have been for decades. They know the propaganda game well.

Consider the name of the vessel.

While the WH would deny it publicly, I suspect this little escapade has support from the very top.

"15 ships are expected to participate in the flotilla"

Sink them, each and every one. Ideally within eyesight of their departure pier.

End this silliness once and for all. The longer the international "peace and justice" commies think they can make political hay, the longer this will go on, with larger and larger flotillas in the future.

Again, SINK THEM.

Perhaps start by sinking 3-4 while tied up at the pier...still, to the bottom they must go.

Perhps they will be subjects of an intense interdiction.

What will HillaHuma do then?

I sincerely hope the flotilla participants are stupid enough to attempt to use force as is being reported elsewhere.

It is really way past time to stop pussyfooting around with these folks.

Torpedo or depth charge or ship-to-ship missile??

Decisions, decisions.

I like the idea of the torpedo. I’m an atavist.
