You can google wobenzym cholesterol, and nattokinase cholesterol, pantethine cholesterol...you can play around by adding heart, or blood, or arteries, or blood vessels. You’ll soon get some good ideas about helpng yourself. I get quality supplements because it’s too easy for cut-rate manufacturers to lie about their ingredients.

PS: I have a new doctor.

My spouse uses Lopid after trying a few different statins and always having back problems, and tingling in the extremities. So far no major problems except weight loss, and he did need to lose 10-20 lbs. The plus side is his good choleterol has risen, the bad has lowered and his blood sugar has dropped to a high normal range.

Knowing the problems others I know have had with statins, I won’t take them myself. So far so good. Yes my cholesterol is slightly higher then they’d like but heck 15 yrs ago my current levels were considered normal. If necessary I would probably give Lopid a try, so far the results are much more positive then statins.

I do not know the rare side effects of Lopid, but I do think that all the muscle problems are a common side effect of statins.

Take Chrome Picolonate and Vanadyl Sulfate (Chrome and Vanadium) and it will go back down.

It costs $685,000/year in statins to prevent one myocardial infarction. 1 out of 3 patients will experience joint and muscle pain sufficient to cause them to stop the drug. About a third of patients referred for hip replacement are there because of a statin. Within a week of stopping the statin, the pain is reduced.

One of the major effects of a statin is an inflammation/swelling of the tendon sheath so you feel pain as the tendon moves.

My reading of the Crestor study was only 1 myocardial infarction was prevented for every 261 patients who took the drug whereas there was one new case of diabetes for every 155 patients taking the drug.

There ya go. The truth is beginning to come out. The results of tests done over time show that people on statins do not do have any less heart attacks and strokes than people who take them. The side effects kill people. My cholesterol has been over 300 for years and the doc has a fit every six months when I go back for my 6 mo. check up (even though I don’t need it). I keep refusing the statins. Doc says my cholesterol is genetic. Well, both my paternal and maternal grandparents and both my parents lived past 90. I should worry??

I would like to get on the Nattokinase. Where do you get quality natural supplements? I never know which ones to trust.

Thank you. I knew that info was out there some place. One more reason to be mad on my part. Hubby also takes the statins and his hip is very painful. I’ve got to get him off all that stuff. He may die if I do, but he is surely going to die soon if I don’t.

You should be aware that cholesterol is not a disease, atherosclerosis is the disease that may be made worse if you have elevated cholesterol. So if you don’t have athero who cares what the cholesterol levels are.

It is presumed the mode of action for the statins is anti-inflammatory in regards to protecting the lining of the arteries, the endothelium. Aspirin, naproxen (aleve) and other inflammatory drugs affect platelets and clotting, a different mechanism just like the fish oil remedies have yet a different action. However, you can get the anti-inflammatory effects of a statin with a dose about 1/10 of that needed to lower your LDL. However, that would mean the drug company profits would be greatly reduced so this info is not pushed.

But the key is simple, if you do not have atherosclerosis, you don’t need to be treated for a disease you don’t have. The problem with taking too much Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like aleve and aspirin, is they cause high blood pressure, which is a worse disease.

64% of our coronary bypass graft patients are smokers and about 30% know they have diabetes and another 30% are diagnosed at surgery. So if you don’t smoke and don’t have diabetes you are not likely to need heart surgery. Most of the other crap you hear is related to making profits for various drugs.

Yes, thank you. I don’t have arteriosclerosis or any other disease that I know of. I’m exceptionally healthy for a 77 year old. I still work. I don’t take any meds except a small dose of Levothyroxin for thyroid (common in older women). I rarely take things like Aleve. Aspirin occasionally for inflamation. I take vitimins and other supplements. I have been taking I-Caps for my eyes lately and I just had a very bad attack of what seemed like a stomach virus. But I’m wondering if there is not too much Vit-A in the I-Caps. I’m going to lay off them for a few days. They seemed to be helping my eyes but I don’t want to have Vit-A toxicity.

Never heard that before about Prevastatin...I’ve been losing weight over the last two months and I am looking forward to getting off a lot of these meds myself...

Unfortunately my Glucose levels have never been under control since last year when I was first diagnosed...I am extremely concerned asd I am now back On insulin, to check my Pancreas’s failure to produce the natural insulin...It could very well be it has shut down, as of yesterday...

Not feeling to well today...About the overall picture...I went to the Podiatrist yeasterday as well, and the wound I have on the bottom of my foot, is requiring some intensive care...

I don’t know what else to do...

I have a new found respect for Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.) than I did when I worked for 4 M.D.s some 25 yrs ago.....they are more hands on and healers than the prescription-pushing mds. Used to always hear that they were dumber than the mds and couldn’t get into medical schools...big egos of mds talking.... Trust me...no one is dumb at the level of education needed to get into any medical school

I believe in a small dose of vitamin A, vitamin D and a baby aspirin daily. I also take potassium to make my kidneys function better because the the arthritic drugs are salt based so they work the kidneys pretty hard trying to eliminate the excess fluid and thereby increase BP.

About 30% of people have small adenomas in the adrenal gland which can affect hormone production and cause hypertension and low potassium levels. They generally get treated for symptoms and receive the wrong drugs, usually a lot of wrong drugs.

Basically, if you do not know a lot of physiology you are pretty much screwed if you have any medical problems out of the ordinary.

I have been taking the I-Caps, but along with my daily Centrum Silver, I’m afraid it’s too much Vit.A. This bout of sickness I’ve had this week is strange for me. Something unusual is going on and the I-Caps are the only new addition that I have been taking at least a month. I’m thinking maybe I have too much Vit.A and went toxic. Just a thought. I’ve never had a 24 hr. stomach virus that lasted 5 days.

I just had an idea. Maybe somebody should start a “daily” medical thread. We all love to talk about our medical problems, cures, etc. To keep it on subject, every day would be started off with a pre-set topic. Arthritis, Vitamins, Herbs, back pain, etc. Wish I was up to it, but as I’m still working I don’t feel I have time to do it justice.

I would say Vitamin A toxicity is unlikely.

“The recommended daily allowance for vitamin A is 5000 international units (IU) for adults. Being fat-soluble, vitamin A is stored to a variable degree in the body, making it more likely to cause toxicity when taken in excess amounts.

Carotenemia, the ingestion of excessive amounts of vitamin A precursors in food, mainly carrots, is manifested by a yellow-orange coloring of the skin, primarily the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. It differs from jaundice in that the sclerae remain white.
In acute vitamin A toxicity, a history of some or all of the following may be obtained:

Nausea
Vomiting
Anorexia
Irritability
Drowsiness
Altered mental status
Abdominal pain
Blurred vision
Headache
Muscle pain with weakness

Manifestations of acute toxicity
Muscle and bone tenderness, especially over the long bones of the upper and lower extremities
Neurologic manifestations with signs of increased intracranial pressure (eg, children may have bulging fontanelles)

Causes of vitamin A toxicity are generally categorized into acute and chronic.

Acute toxicity occurs within a few hours or days after a very large intake as a result of accidental over-ingestion or inappropriate therapy. The estimated toxic dose is about 25,000 IU/kg.
Chronic toxicity appears after ingestion of 25,000 IU or more daily for prolonged periods.”

Oh, I didn’t mean for you to have to go search for that, but I appreciate it. You are so kind. I had some of those symptoms. I will have to look and see how many iu are in the Centrum and add them to the I-Cap and see what the total is. I almost never eat carrots, which is why I was taking the I-Caps. I am finally better tonight. Chicken soup is finally staying put. Thanks again.
