The other possibility is when the Vikings, or other plundering mobs, attacked a village they killed most everybody. If the village was mostly Jewish then they got whacked, if they were Huguenots, then they got whacked.

Difficult to absolutely say it was a hate crime but history would lend credence to the theory.

In the 12th and 13th centuries there were no Viking raids in England and no Hugenots.

Too late for Vikings, too early for Protestants.

But there were always lots of small and medium size civil wars going on. Sort of the standard lifestyle of the time.

No Huguenots in the 12th century ~ or the 13th ~ or the 14th or in the 15th ~ but by the 16th century there were Huguenots all over France.

Many of them actually fled to Sweden and Norway to escape persecution.
