Flip the logic around, maybe life got based on water because it gets shot out of baby stars in immense quantities, water was what was available.
Obviously - however - I must point out -
You are left in SERIOUS sci-fi land -
Your oceans aren’t water anymore, unless you want the oceans made of water and the life based on “molecule X” -
Flip the logic around - and you have the most fantastically complex set of circumstances, that need to happen with an entirely different chemistry. “Silicon based life forms” may sound cool on TV, but the reality is unimaginably complex.
Just an aside - the stars “just happen” to spew the one molecule that expands when it changes state from liquid to gas.
