I believe “mental illness” means anyone who has ever admitted to being depressed or prescribed Xanax or similar drugs.
They are using this to make more and more people unable to own firearms.
That's precisely what I suspect. One of the gun-grabbing Brady Bunch projects involves lobbying state legislatures to reclassify individuals under treatment for common, minor psychiatric problems as ineligible to own firearms.

And given how the law is used to bludgeon the people, at the whims of the government-officers, anyone who ISN’T depressed probably has a mental illness...
