GOP's Ulrich Has a Shot in Special Vote to Replace Weiner
Human Events ^ | Jun 2011 | David Pietrusza

As disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner, once a major player in New York City politics and a prominent Democratic Party attack dog, enters the X-rated dustbin of history, the question of who will replace him in the state's ninth congressional district now takes center stage.

Normally, the only question regarding Gotham congressional races is how left-wing the Democratic victor will be. In anything now regarding Anthony Weiner, the circumstances are hardly normal.

On its surface, NY9 is bedrock Democrat. A Republican has not represented any portion of it in decades—and Weiner's predecessor was none other than his mentor, Sen. Chuck Schumer.

But NY9 possesses certain oddities. For an urban district, its population is decidedly non-diverse: 71% of its voters are white. Only a miniscule 4% are African-American. In recent presidential elections, the Republican vote has not only held steady, it has trended upward, from 30% in 2000 to 44% in both 2004 and 2008. More significantly, compared with the national GOP vote percentage, it has soared from a deficit of -18% to -7% to just -2%. And in 2010, Anthony Weiner's unknown, 70-year-old Republican oppponent, Bob Turner, polled a respectable, and actually startling, 40%.

Earlier this week, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani met with Ulrich and reportedly indicated he would support an Ulrich bid in NY9. Fifty-thousand of the 56,000 voters in Weiner's council district reside in NY9.

It would be very nice to see some lib heads explode over this.

On a side note, just throwing this out there - with a name like Weiner and a sex-addict history, he should abandon politics permanently and become a porn star. He's a ready-made success.

“...Weiner’s predecessor was none other than his mentor, Sen. Chuck Schumer.”

Chuck Schumer certainly has stellar powers of discernment in choosing and supporting a guy like Weiner. What more dramatic evidence does anyone need of just how morally and rationally flawed these weirdoes’ are?

I would love to see a republican in the seat. It would give the dems and media anxiety attacks. The large Jewish population could be a problem unless they are friends to Israel.

Jewish population is heavily Orthodox..who are quite conservative.

Ulrich's a comer..he wouldn't have to resign his council seat to run in the special election, and it would give him a lot of publicity..elevate his profile. OTOH, if he won the election, his district will disappear, and he'll be left without ANY position, nor any viable opening..

I suspect he'll run...if he wins, and then loses his district due to redistricting, he can be promised some position in DC...House, or WH

So this isn’t the area that had the Jewish pop. that threw support to Hillary Clinton? I was thinking it was the non-religious Jews that were so uberliberal. Well if not then I hope they run him and not the older guy that ran against Weiner the first time. A fresher face would help in this area. Will definitely be fun to watch. :)

It’s a big effort to make to run for a seat that will likely be redrawn at best or maybe eliminated at worst. But Mark Critz (D) did it in PA and now he has name recognition and experience if he chooses to run in one of the adjacent redrawn districts. So for Critz, it might have been worth it.

I’ll bet Cuomo will delay the special election until November first to save money and also so the anti-Weiner sentiment can abate.

FYI..Nationalreview.com has a great article today NEW YORK SPECIAL..explains all about the race...the GOP candidate who ran, and lost in 2012 is a good guy, he’ll happily defer to Ulrich if Ulrich wants to run. It’s a good read..

Just another example of how those districts that are liberal strongholds have been turned into mild dictatorships where the actual vote is irrelevant.

Liberals choose their candidates long before the election and based on loyalty to those in power.

When was the last time you heard about a breakout liberal candidate? Where is the Herman Cain in the DNC?

A replacement for Weiner?

Would that be a prosthesis?

Liberals have a lot of $$$ to spread around and of course, promise (usually deliver) more and larger gov’t. gimme’s than Republicans.

Consequently, they command a more consistent ‘loyalty’ (if you want to call it that) from their base.

Having long ago convinced American minorities that they are routinely, successfully and permanently the target of exploitation and oppression, have been and continue to be intentionally marginalized (for whatever purpose) criminally excluded and ‘under-served’…of course, Liberals get and retain a base just as if 30+ years of affirmative action did not take place. Go figure.

Of course none of the Liberal or MSM lies which perpetuate this fairy tale are ever challenged by Conservatives.

I am certain that statistics exist illustrating the gargantuan and irreversible gains and achievements of minorities in America.

If Conservatives would PRESENT these, hammer at the facts unmercifully… THEN Liberals would have to ‘re educate’ their base about how ‘under-served’ and marginalized they ARE….Liberal minorities would have to be CONSISTENTLY REMINDED that big screen TV’s, the latest technology toys, free education, medical attention, favored status in lending, favored status in the law, etc….. are NOT parity!!!

Brooklyn and Queens? I have a hard time believing they aren’t going to pull the D lever.

I agree. I'd be surprised if it were close.

“Fifty-thousand of the 56,000 voters in Weiner’s council district reside in NY9.”

Does that mean that mean most but not all of Ulrich’s City Council District is in NY9?

Of the 71% of NY9 that is white, I’d bet 80-90% of them are Jewish. That would explain the uptick in GOP voting. It’ll be interesting to see if the older Jewish folks can part with their traditional Dem voting patterns given the current Administration’s treatment of Israel. Just because Weiner was able to bring a bunch of them to yesterday’s announcement, it doesn’t necessarily reflect the rest of the district and their thinking.

-"...A Snooki hookup?"

Since 1966 / starting with the "60's revolution" and the rise of the "liberal-SOCIALIST Democrats" from then onwards, culminating with the 'ACCEPTANCE and SUPPORT' of the CLINTON LEGACY... we have seen the "WHITE-TRASHIFICATION" of politics and society in America where they are making the DEVIANT the NORM, reflected in shows such as "JERSEY SHORE" (by the way I live in Jersey) and "SEX AND THE CITY" (nothing but a bunch of hussies)!

No. New Square, home of the Skverer Hasidim, is in Rockland county (upstate suburbs) not Brooklyn or Queens.
