You make some excellent points.

I wish there were a huge “DEFUND THE EPA” campaign going on about now. This country needs to rollback some regulating, and quick.

I'm with you on that. Considering the alternative to having the energy to accomplish what else we need, recall that living in 'harmony with nature' in the 'pristine wilderness' managed to give people a 35-40 year anticipated lifespan, I'll take my chances with some minor pollution, most of which nature will deal with anyway.

The real exposure of their agenda in that agency comes when they are fundamentally against fracking (natural gas), coal, despite the already 'clean' technologies (and fought with moving target emissions standards), oil, nuclear, everything but windmills and solar, which just don't get the job done.

At the root of it all, though, this is the fault of the Congress, who have abdicated the legislative power and let it be usurped by the countless minions of the Executive Branch.

It is a certainty that such minutiae would not be regulated at the Federal Level if the Congress was required to promulgate its own regulations instead of let the tendrils of the Executive Branch hire countless unaccountable and unelected personnel to perform that task.

Each state should set its requirements, and the Federal Government should only become involved when there is a dispute between states.

When the average American's MONTHLY electric bill goes to $500-$1000 per month, then the idiots will finally get it.

An oil-rich nation rations power.

Huh... why?

Because most of their electricity comes from Hydro and the water levels are low.

And for essentially the same reasons that have caused the problems in Venezuela: incompetence and ideology. Chavez fired all the competent administrators and replaced them with military and other cronies loyal to him who know nothing about electricity generation and distribution. Everyone who knew how to run the system and who was capable of deciding what projects to invest in was removed. In fact, investment ground to a halt and vital maintenance was not carried out. Chavez also brought in “experts” from Cuba (which has been experiencing critical shortages and rolling blackouts for 30 years), under whose tutelage the Chavez incompetents built power plants but no transmission lines. It is a freaking mess in Venezuela, and now that Obama is getting his way, it will be a mess here.

This will NOT effect those with “pull”, either in Venezuela or in the United States when the left’s “energy policy” is implemented.

I’m investing in some personal residential power generation - not to be “green”, and it definitely won’t save much money, but just in order to even HAVE power when these policies start having consequences.

The 0bama’s have achieved the “special” status, that of the neo-nobility,

so it won’t matter where they are,
they’ll still be driving big gas powered cars and using all the electricity they want,

while the peasants are limited to 6 sticks of firewood per month, on penalty of death.

Electric utilities are shutting down older coal plants because upgrading them to meet new pollution regulations would be to expensive...The sad thing is that when the lights go out people die. The old and the poor will be hardest hit.

And thousands of prepared citizens compensate by firing up dirty petrol, diesel and pellet household generator sets. Imagine that, the rusty old coal plant will be replaced by a symphony of lawnmower and European diesel engines!

In fairness though, does Detroit use the same amount of electricity today than it did a decade ago? Though coal plants have been closing, natural gas plants are starting, and many plants are being refitted with far more efficient turbines and generators. Nationally, we are doing far more with a whole lot less. Isn't that a good thing?

“When the average American’s MONTHLY electric bill goes to $500-$1000 per month, then the idiots will finally get it.”

You think so? Well, maybe. But it’s at least just as likely that the masses will blame “Big Power” for their high bills, just as they do with oil. There will be stories (again) of idled power plants, and who knows what else.

What you will never hear about will be the dozens of scrapped power plants, just here in Texas. The ones that were scrapped because they wouldn’t do enough to stop Global Warming.

So what to do? My plan this summer is to buy a natural gas generator. Gas is cheap now and will likely stay relatively cheap, for at least the next 5+ years, as we have tons of it. Power will soon go THROUGH THE ROOF, especially with Smart Meters charging us 4X normal rates during peak times.

Will I come out ahead - who knows. But I will have more control over my situation than relying just on the power company. I’d also add solar, but I don’t have enough decent views.

Ouch; bad planning. Guess they’ll have to start burning some of that oil...

They will have to build some more oil-burning power plants first.
