No head of the ATF would start an operation like this, unless they had approval from the Attorney General, Eric Holder. Holder is corrupt but not stupid. He would have went to Obama on this operation.
The real question is the following, “will holder or the head of the ATF fall on their sword for Obama?”

The real question is the following, “will holder or the head of the ATF fall on their sword for Obama?” Head of the ATF of course. He's not one of Holder's people.
But then, there is no "head of the ATF". Traver hasn't been confirmed yet. But I'd be willing to bet Holder will leak info that Traver knew of the operation and will be the sacrificial lamb. It's a win-win for him. If he can pull it off. Just speculating since it's possible Traver won't be confirmed. I hope.
