Cedar Falls Bureaucrats to Property Owners: Give us the keys to your property…

Ordinance #2740( An unfunded city-wide mandate) was passed with a resounding 6 to 1 vote, and it allows for the citizens of Cedar Falls to forcefully give the government keys to their comercial properties through universal 'lock boxes'. The intent of the program is to provide increased safety and protection to personal, private property which include businesses, apartments and some rental houses-- which by the way-- comes at the expense of furthering wayward erosion of fundamental constitutional rights.

Nobody in Cedar Falls owns a bucket of tar and a few feather pillows?

Knox Box

I don't see anything sinister in this. Real estate agents use lock boxes on properties so other real estate agents can show them.

An empty house is one thing, but a store with millions of dollars in stock? I don’t think so.....................

I would never allow a Real estate agent to put a lock box on my front door if I was still living in the house. And they sure wouldn’t be permitted to put one on my business door either.

This is talking about all commercial addresses and rental properties.

I wonder what this would do to the No Knock Entry supporters in the PD? Would the cops still be allowed to shoot the dog?

My town tried to pull this with requiring keys to private social clubs (their argument was, if someone called 911 they couldn’t get in without someone buzzing them in). That requested ordinance went over like a fart in a spacesuit - every private club showed up at city council argue against it - the first words out of the council was - if you are here about the lockbox request we won’t be going forward with this - everyone left.:>)

And who is liable if someone is able to gain access with a key that is under city control?

Making it mandatory and not optional seems wrong.

Haven’t Americans lost enough freedoms?

Some freepers just amaze me with the encroachment of tyranny, yet they sleep, baa baa.

Had a lock box on my last house for sale. Someone tried to open it in the middle of the night with my wife and I asleep.

They couldn’t get past the stubborn front door lock; otherwise they’d have met the business end of my HK-93!

I might consider a VOLUNTARY program like that. I’d prefer they unlock and walk in over destroying my door with a fire axx (in a fire emergency).

A cliche but true - locks only keep out honest people.

With all of the justifiable focus on Washington, D.C., we often lose sight of the fact that some of the very worst despots in America sit on school boards and small town councils.

As long as none of my possessions were in the building, sure, hang the lock box on the door. I have too many little things that might just be too tempting to others who are strolling through under the pretense of a sale, or a police or fire inspection.

No Ma’am, I an not someone who believes that a badge makes honest men out of liars and thieves.
