Texas Ranger Border Shootout - Bullets fly across the Rio Grande.
Human Events ^ | 06/09/2011 | John Hayward

Posted on 06/09/2011 1:25:09 PM PDT by neverdem

A team of Texas Rangers Recon agents came under attack from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande this morning, according to an Associated Press report. The U.S. officers were forced to “return fire and injure at least three of the suspects on the other side of the border.”

The officers were patrolling by boat when they encountered some drug-laden cartel boats. The cartel responded with “heavy fire.” There is no official word on any U.S. casualties.

This sort of thing actually happens quite often. The AP notes there have been “at least a dozen incidents of shots being fired from Mexico into Texas” since January of last year. There’s no need to worry about it, because President Obama says the border is secure.

In my lifetime, I hope to see artillery fire being directed across the border...on a southern trajectory.

There is a border war going on here. We need to step up and respond with overwhelming fire power. Patrol the border with UAV’s as in Afganistan and Packystan. Blast ‘em.

We need some heave weapons down there, including a Kimber 50 cal to pick off the ones standing on the other bank, some AK 47’s to work on the ones in the river, and some work for the boys at Creech AFB to take out a few villages within a hundred miles of the border. Turn them loose.

Back in ‘92 Harold Coyle wrote of a second Mexican War in a novel Trial by Fire.

Isn't this an act of war? All I can say I am glad they were Rangers and not Border Patrol, who are hampered with stupid ROE.

If they are going to patrol the river and take fire frequently(or even unfrequently)they need to mount some heavy fire power, starting with an M2 .50 Machine Gun and maybe a minigun or two.

Wiping out a couple of these drug boats down to the last man might have a quieting effect on the drug trade.

If Chuck Norris handled this mess would the US be charged with using a weapon of Mass Destruction?

The former has too much range and power. The latter has too much volume of fire. Bring back the M60 7.62 mm machine gun, if the 5.56 mm Squad Automatic Weapon can't do the job.

YES BUT THE M2 .50 LEAVES A NICE SPACE WHERE THE A—HOLE USED TO BE.

Considering that a small patrol like that should not try to employ infantry-style tactics (close with and destroy the enemy, usu. via overwhelming numbers) the M2’s range would be ideal for keeping the enemy out of the effective-range of their own light weapons*.

*They could resort to things like shoulder-fired missiles/rockets; this however would be VERY much an escalation-of-force; I doubt the capability of the federal government to squelch the citizen’s outcry should such attacks become “not uncommon.”

Just haviung a few Jolly Green Giants in flight to support the Texas Border PAtrol would yield significant progress.

A few eletric gatling guns would take care of any of these cartels hoping to dissolve the Southern border of our nation.

You're missing my point, I want chunks to be blown out of the drug runners boats, both the .50 and the mini gun can do that, and even if the miss the drug dealers themselves they would put the fear of God(and the Rangers)into them.

I will, however, settle for an M60 7.62, or even a M1919 Browning .30 Machine gun, both would do the job.

I read that when I was stationed in Mexico City. That’s the one where the first-ever USMA female second lieutenant was an infantry officer. That novel could well turn out to be prophetic. Coyle is a great military writer.

Eventually I think you are right. The money these guys have will allow them to buy first class weapons and maybe unseat the govt of Mexico.Eventualy there cartels might be able to outgun the US and state authorities.Of course we’ll need a more nationalistic admin to respond.
