American police draw fire at the [TX] border

BROWNSVILLE — A shootout on the Rio Grande between U.S. law enforcement officers and Mexican drug runners left at least three gang members wounded, the Department of Public Safety said Thursday.

DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange said the gunfire broke out somewhere in Hidalgo County early Thursday. She said she could not be more specific for security reasons. She said she did not have information on whether any of the U.S. officials were wounded.

She said the officers were participating in a multi-agency Texas Ranger Reconnaissance operation and were attempting to stop a large drug load.

Officers arrived on the scene in three patrol boats after spotting a suspicious vehicle on the U.S. banks of the river and two boats full of drugs on the water. They “received heavy gun fire from the Mexico side” while attempting to interdict the boats, she said.

“There is still an operation going on,” Mange added, saying personnel were still in the field along the border and the agency is not releasing any further information until later today.

It also was unclear whether arrests were made.

Mexican authorities were notified of the abandoned boat loads of drugs and were on the scene.

Gov. Rick Perry in September of 2009 announced the establishment of “Ranger Recon” teams to meet what he said were inadequate federal resources along the Texas-Mexico border.

The teams, comprised of Texas Rangers and Texas National Guard Counterdrug forces, are deployed to high-traffic, high-crime areas to help stem the flow of contraband, according to an agency news release.

The Rangers have been defending Texans for a long time. Anyone know if the NGs are armed?

We all know better! Everything about this article is untrue.

Obama’s historic administration has already fixed the boarder problems, so this just couldn’t have happened.

Janet Napolitano recently told us that the southern border with Mexico has never been safer than it is now.

Based upon my own experience on the Texas border the absolutely last thing you want to do, which probably will BE the last thing you ever do, is to piss off a Texas Ranger.

Move along. There’s nothing to see here. The border is as secure as it’s ever been.

It’s my understanding that a Texas Ranger is pretty much a ‘’supercop’’ in Texas, i.e they have authority everywhere in The Lone Star State?
