The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose by 1,000 last week, according to a report on Thursday that could stoke fears the labor market recovery has stalled.
Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased to 427,000, the Labor Department said. A department official added the slim rise meant the level was "essentially unchanged."
But economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims dropping to 415,000 from a previously reported count of 422,00

Another Unexpected Thursday...
Was anything bad that ever happened when Bush was President “unexpected?”
Unexpectedly!!! lol
No, it was eagerly anticipated................
“Unexpected”
Drink!!!
A bunch of other numbers came out along with the weekly jobless claims. I’ve been wondering for a while if the admin cooks the jobless figs. Now I’m wondering about the accuracy of those other numbers as well.
Darn, and it was doing so well! [/s]
I think the White House needs to slap the “TM” symbol on the word “unexpected.”
The MSM’s use of “unexpected” really has become a parody of itself.
If this is ‘cooked’ I sure as hell hate to see the ‘raw”!........................
The joke, the real laughable matter, is the assumption that anyone can make a rational prediction at all. The whole concept of first determining the variables and then assigning values to each and then summing them all up to determine what is expected is preposterous.
A person who makes such a prediction is no more than a salaried fool.

They're called 'bureaucrats'.....................
Excellent response on the link on the Drudge Report:
“Thank you Mr President from saving us from the Bush recession. Now, who is going to save us from the Obama Depression?”
Geez! I saw the word “rise” in the title and thought it was just another Weiner story.....
Today the White Hut has applied for a trademark on the word unexpectedly........
Unexpectedly
Don't these people know they sound like complete idiots at this point?
At what point are these analysts (who are always surprised) to be considered retarded?
We need to start hammering this unexpected business back at them.
Let them see our “unexpected” reaction to things they claim to be “unexpected.”
Idiots.
