Mexico, 13 other nations say Utah illegal immigration law could strain

SALT LAKE CITY — More than a dozen Latin and South American countries have joined Mexico in expressing potential international fallout over Utah's illegal immigration enforcement law.

In a court brief filed Tuesday, the Mexican government lists several reasons for its opposition to HB497, including impeding diplomatic relations, hindering trade and tourism and possible harassment of Mexican citizens.

"Mexico respectfully submits that if HB497 is allowed to take effect it will have significant and long-lasting adverse impact on U.S.-Mexico bilateral relations, and on Mexican citizens and other people of Latin American descent present in Utah," court documents say.

The brief supports a class-action lawsuit the ACLU of Utah and the National Immigration Law Center filed against the state last month, contending the measure passed by the Utah Legislature and signed into law in March is unconstitutional and will lead to racial profiling. A federal judge temporarily put the law on hold and will consider arguments this summer for an injunction to stop enforcement until the case is decided.

Attorneys for the state were originally scheduled to file their response to the lawsuit Wednesday, but were granted a 30-day extension.

Mexico, in the brief, asks the judge to issue the injunction and declare HB497 unconstitutional. Salt Lake attorney Lon A. of Jenkins along with three lawyers form the New York firm Dewey & LeBoeuf submitted the 13-page document.

Jenkins referred questions to the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C.. An embassy spokesman did not return a phone call seeking comment Wednesday.

Mexico, according to the brief, is "deeply concerned" the law would lead to harassment of Mexican citizens and people who look Hispanic. -This is the best laugh I had of the year. Mexico was so concern advise your citizens to come home.

We need laws similar to the laws that Mexico has regarding illegal border violators.

This is absolutely nutz! Each and every “illegal” alien in this country is a law breaker and should be arrested and prosecuted.

When did we go so wrong?......

So, not only are states right of self determination almost totally subordinated to DC, but now foreign nations nearly have veto power over legislation passed by the peoples' state representatives.

Its amazing what the American people are willing to tolerate.

When is someone going to start questioning Mexico’s ability to file legal briefs against a sovereign state over which they have absolutely no jurisdiction. Why are such briefs even allowed? Dealings with Mexico is a State Department function of the federal government. They have no AUTHORITY here in the dealings among the people of Utah!

Okay then, just use Mexico’s illegal immigration law. That should satisfy them.

Every time the Mexican government meddles in our legislative affairs, we ought to bring suit against them. They would have a hysterical fit if we stuck our nose into their national business as they feel perfectly free to do to ours because they have millions of their citizens living here illegally.
Bizarro world we live in.

We need laws similar to the laws that Mexico has regarding illegal border violators.

Similar, heck -- we should adopt them word for word:

Mexican Constitution, Article 9:

Article 9 Only citizens of the Republic may take part in the political affairs of the country.

Reglamento de la Ley General de Poblacion (General Law on Population) in Spanish dated Abril 14 de 2000 Capitulo Quinto --Migracion Seccion 1:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress."

Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents.

Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy."

The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest."

American politicians should be more worried about the 'diplomatic strains' with its legitimate citizens.

Yet another glimpse into the future with respect to 'world citizenship'.

FO Mexico! You’re a third-world toilet, and have never in your entire existence produced or contributed anything towards the betterment of mankind in general. I don’t think floor shows involving Mexican women and farm animals is anything to trumpet as far as a contribution.

Mexico should have NO standing in any court case in the US. Mexico doesn’t want to lose all of the money sent back to Mexico by all of the illegals here in this country.

Utah should model an immigration law on Mexico’s.

Liberals and their illegal cadres would FREAK OUT.

Mexico seals its borders from the south, like North Korea seals its borders.

“La Raza” = “The Race”

Just thought I’d put that out there, before anyone starts accusing supporters of legal (legal) immigration - such as the rather notable Cesar Chavez - “racists”.

Can we please build the fence now? There are plenty of crossings for legal immigration. They’re fine, and not going anywhere.

Let’s just pay some attention to the 2,000 uncontrolled miles of drug-trafficing coyote trails in between those crossings.

Not sure how long Mexico’s race card is going to last given Mexico’s “race victims” are victimizing our the heck out of Americans with the invasion. Why doesn’t Mexico just admit it. They want their own people out of their country.
