Since last week was Memorial Day, I would like to acknowledge those who fought for our freedom on D Day, June 6, 1944.
I visited the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA just last Thursday. It is AWESOME, and very well done. I had the privilege of meeting a gentleman named Buster who was on a Higgins Boat crew that day, delivering our boys to the beach. He said it took about 6 hours per round trip, and he did it 3 times. Wow! A humbling experience, indeed!
To all FReepers who have served in the armed forces of America to keep our freedom, THANK YOU AND GODSPEED!
I could not let today go by without some sort of acknowledgement of the significance of the date today.
Guess I will have to watch The Longest Day tonight after work.
Germany did declare war on the US post Pearl Harbor; but wasn’t Japan the country that attacked us? I know this is a radical stance, but looking back on history did we get involved in Europe to bail out our friends in the USSR, and the United Kingdom? Hitler really didn’t want war with the US and the more and more I read and study WW2 it seems like the European campaign was more of a “humanitarian” save the Jews and our Soviet allies. Stalin was begging the US to open a second front.
Get a life!
I spent a good bit of last night polishing my brown Corcoran jump boots to a glassy shine. I’m wearing them at work today in honor of the Allies who took the fight to Normandy 67 years ago.
I kinda figured one of you PC idiots would have something stupid to say.
Soldier covers male, female & the ones who ain't sure what they are.
Nah, he'd just prefer that the US surrendered before the war started.
Good Job Joe!
For those of you with a Kindle, Amazon has the ebook version of “NO BETTER PLACE TO DIE: Ste-Mere Eglise, June 1944-The Battle for la Fiere Bridge” by Robert Murphy for free today in honor of D-Day.
Thanks for the information!
The US priority in 1942-1943 in the ETO, was to save England. And yes, Stalin wanted a second front but only after Germany invaded Russia. Stalin wasn't asking for one when he co-invaded Poland.
