All because the politicians won't enforce the border or preserve the rule of law.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin
That is not the way E-Verify works. E-Verify is an electronic program through which employers verify the employment eligibility of their employees after hire. The program was authorized by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). In short, employers submit information taken from a new hire's Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification Form) through E-Verify to the Social Security Administration and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to determine whether the information matches government records and whether the new hire is authorized to work in the United States.
The employer just submits the new hire's SSN into the system and gets a response within seconds. If there are mismatches, then it is up to the new hire to resolve them within a specificed time frame. Only 1.7% of new hires receive mismatches. And of those 1.7% mismatches, 1.43% are not found work authorized. And of the 1.43%, 1.3 percent of employees who receive initial mismatches do not contest the mismatch.
The databases used to check E-Verify entries are already in existence. Americans don't have to get clearance from a government bureaucrat to work.
I am very much for this, however EV it is a double edged sword in tracking ALL Americans. In time they will have all your information, down to what you eat and drink in one place.
This isn't about liberty, it's more a privacy concern. In that case, you're already in a number of government databases.
