Charles Krauthammer on Sarah Palin's Chances in 2012
Fox News ^ | May 31, 2011 | Fox News

Posted on 06/01/2011 11:26:24 PM PDT by americanophile

This is a RUSH transcript from "The O'Reilly Factor," May 31, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Impact" segment tonight: Fox News political analyst Charles Krauthammer, a very outspoken guy, as Donald Trump recently found out. So how does he see this weekend's Sarah Palin bus tour? Charles joins us now from Washington. So Hume and me, your humble correspondent, we feel that she's not going to run. First of all, do you concur?

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, FOX NEWS ANALYST: I agree completely. I think it would make no sense for her to run. I think her chances of winning the nomination are small. The chances of winning the general election are probably nil. I think, for the same reasons you articulated, 60 percent negatives. That's almost impossible to overcome. And it isn't as if that is forever. Hillary Clinton had very high negatives at many points in her career. But over time, they tend to soften.

O'REILLY: Yes, but the difference is -- the difference is that the press didn't hate Hillary Clinton, who was promoting her, and the press generally hates Sarah Palin. She's going to have a tough mountain whenever she goes.

KRAUTHAMMER: I'm not sure that Hillary has the political smarts and energy and star power of a Sarah Palin.

O'REILLY: No.

KRAUTHAMMER: So I would not underestimate her. She has a future. Why would you jeopardize it by running now and losing?

I can’t wait for the flaming I’ll receive, not to mention the ad hominems against Krauthammer. Too bad no one will address with those HUGE negatives.

“60 percent negatives.”

Explain it,,, the poll, the sample, the methodology. You,,are aware that polls are meant to create opinion, only very rarely are they meant to measure it.

Check with AP, it’s their poll.

Calm down. If you think the poll is flawed tell me why. Otherwise, please explain how it makes political sense to nominate someone with negatives that high?

Krauthammer was born on March 13, 1950 in New York City. He was raised in Montreal, Quebec, where he attended Herzliah High School and McGill University and obtained an honors degree in political science and economics in 1970. He was a Commonwealth Scholar in politics at Balliol College, Oxford, 1970–1971. He later moved to the United States, where he attended Harvard Medical School.

—snip—

In 1978, Krauthammer quit medical practice to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Jimmy Carter administration, and began contributing to The New Republic magazine. During the presidential campaign of 1980, Krauthammer served as a speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale.

"Check with AP, it’s their poll."

So you admit the foundation of your argument is flawed.

Yes, and he’s now what is known as a Neocon - a new conservative. A movement of (predominently Jewish) intellectuals who became conservative after the Carter Administration; i.e., Podhoritz, Kristol, etc.

*You* were the one who said it was a reality check,,, and that it was the truth. Ergo, you directly vouched for it’s veracity. And now you can only say it’s from “AP”.

No agenda over at AP,, so sir.

Chuck has a point here with the look at all the current polling. Palin is even aware of it. That is why she had the Movie made to try to turn the tide. Also Romney does have stable front runner polling and one heck of a fundraising machine.

The only variable that no one can factor in is that this is a totally new environment for a Presidential race. So many things have changed from the way messages are delivered to the public i.e.; social media and internet sites. Plus Obummer is so damaged and incompetent. The economy is worse than anyone can remember. There is a Tea Party movement to help Conservative candidates to work outside the current GOP apparatus. I don’t think we will have any idea if this is an impossible feat for Palin till after a few debates and some serious public appearances. She needs to take Romney head on along with all the other candidates to show America who this Liberal really is. Knock him out of frontrunner and take his spot.

That is were Chuck is off in his early prediction. Did anyone see Gingrich collapsing on day one? Chuck sure didn’t.

Well, no, it’s consistent with every major poll I’ve seen since November 2008. If I’m wrong, please tell me.

Check with AP, it’s their poll.

Ah, Associated Press, that bastion of fairness and objectivity.

AP, the ones who had their pollsters double the percentage of Democrats in their polling sample, cut in half the percentage of Republicans, and keep only 3% Independents?

And you are evangelizing their propaganda?

“Calm down”
???

Look guy, i was the picture of politeness. I wasn’t even upset. I merely asked you to back up your unequivocal assertion that it was true. It’s encumbent upon YOU to explain why you think it is accurate. You seem to think you can just say it’s true, with no explaination for why you think it’s accurate. And that everyone else has to do YOUR research.

It seems safe to conclude that you either have a very high level of trust the the Associated Press, or that you are just giving an opinion based on nothing empirical.

Reasoned, thoughtful, no personal attacks...what a nice change.

True, much can happen; it's early in the game.
