ps - the thread was about feeding onions to kids. I don’t see where culinary arts comes into it unless they carved the onions into some sort of sculpture.

I just had my first handful of spring onions from my garden
with dinner tonight. Like your Mom, I let them sit in a glass of water to keep them crisp.
I can’t see that going over too well as a snack for school children and I imagine if many of them did eat them
the building would reek of “death breath”.

The point we should take from the article is not that they had the audacity to serve II ions, but that in addition to gvt. paid for breakfast and lunch, we are paying for a snack for these children.

Parents need to pay to feed their children unless their circumstances are dire. This is becoming business as usual in too many schools.

ppps - just to be clear. The students were served onions for a snack. It didn't say sliced or diced. So with that in mind, here's what culinary arts is:

Culinary art is the art of preparing and cooking foods. The word "culinary" is defined as something related to, or connected with, cooking. A culinarion is a person working in the culinary arts. A culinarian working in restaurants is commonly known as a cook or a chef. Culinary artists are responsible for skillfully preparing meals that are as pleasing to the palate as to the eye. Increasingly they are required to have a knowledge of the science of food and an understanding of diet and nutrition. They work primarily in restaurants, fast food chain store franchises, delicatessens, hospitals and other institutions. Kitchen conditions vary depending on the type of business, restaurant, nursing home, etc.

So I don't think sliced onions falls into the category of Culinary Arts, professor.

Onions are also a good remedy or preventative for scurvy.

I used to love raw zucchini, straight from the garden. After it’s sat on the shelf a few days it really needs to be cooked, though.

Thank you. There really is no cornbread worth eating besides unsweetened cornbread.

the days of milk and cookies are long gone as schools aim to provide students with healthy fruits and vegetables as snacks.

They are gone only to those Americans that tolerate this dictatorship.

Forcing children to eat raw onions is not out of concern for their health. It is out of the determination to control.

I’m allergic to them too. I keep getting told that I’m “just a picky eater”, but I’d rather be picky than sick.

Fresh dug new potato right from the garden with a little sprnkle of salt is delicious....the skin is so delicate you can just wipe it off the potato....needs 3-4 days after digging to get the skin harden.

Did I spell it right?

It's actually spelled "roux", but you were pretty close. At least you spelled the homonym correctly :)

"Roux" is one of those annoying French words in which half the consonants are silent. It gets misspelled a lot, just like "voila" does (pronounced "wah-lah").

Thus ends the spelling lesson for the night :)

More scandalous for me is the nearly $2m budget to give these snacks to elementary kids in that district. This is in addition to provided breakfast and lunch.

WHAT DO PARENTS DO NOW?

Make it three.

Maybe we can get them banned like the peanut nazis. /s
