Republican senators on Friday forced the US Senate to stay in session over its week-long Memorial Day break in a bid to prevent President Barack Obama from nominating a controversial head of a new consumer protection bureau. Obama has the right to make so-called "recess appointments" any time the Senate breaks for four days or more.

It is widely expected that the president will appoint the controversial and straight-talking Elizabeth Warren to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

"President Obama has been packing federal agencies with left-wing ideologues, but thankfully he won't be able to for at least the next week," said South Carolina Republican Senator Jim DeMint, who helped spearhead the move.

Good on you 'pubs, keep it up!

About damned time!

The Democrats kept the Senate from adjourning for two years in order to block any recess appointments by Bush.

What goes around, comes around.

Good, it’s about time the GOP developed a spine. Do the same to them that they did to Bush.

“straight-talking Elizabeth Warren”

Isn’t she the one who lied to Congress about being excused from testimony? How is that “straight-talking” AFP?

MY Senator Jeff Sessions of ALABAMA had a hand in keeping Congress in session.

I’m so proud I could burst! But I don’t want to get pizza and beer on my laptop, so I won’t.

Way To Go Senator Jeff Sessions!

Excellent.

Obama must not be allowed any reccess appointments. Though I don’t know if this can be prevented indefinitely.

Will the real GOP stand up? First, the GOP rolls over for the media and then they make a stand.

Pick a side and quit confusing voters.
