Is The Electrol College Fair
(Excerpt) Read more at msnbc.msn.com ...
Geez, not this crap again.
I think this is unconstitutional. Since the liberals could never get enough support to change the 12th amendment or other constitutional provisions of the electoral college, they just want the electors to be a rubber stamp.
Who was Thompson blocking?
Dittos...I’m afraid to hit the link and read it.
No kidding. Our founders knew way more than Mrs. Clinton or Thompson do.
blocking Huckabee in S.C
Is the sky blue? Is grass green? Does Pam Anderson crap ice cream? Would I drink Sarah Palin’s bath water?
It’s a video of Thompson being questioned and wants the electoral college to go away. What’s he smoking? Population centers will elect the President and the rest of the country will have no say...
Fool me twice, shame on me. The disappointment known as Fred Thompson needs to just fade into political oblivion.
Absolute proof the Oligarchy is having a hissy fit about the prospects of Flyover Country electing their president!!!!
Yep. Thompson was McInsane’s stalking horse.
The creep screwed me out of a $200 contribution with his bogus campaign.
He blocked Mitt Romney from winning 3 more delegates in Wyoming.
That’s it. The moderates don’t want us bible thumping hillbillies derailing the gravy train any more than the democrats do.
Very interesting info. It’s good to keep remember but in this day and age it’s on to the next thing...and I’m one of them. Thompson wanted McCain, and who else wanted him one might wonder.
Not only does Fred want to go to switch to popular vote, but he wants to do it in a dishonest manner that will circumvent the Constitution.
There is some merit to the argument that the EV system causes candidates to focus almost entirely on a handful of swing states. But, if anyone wants to essentially scrap the Electoral College in favor of the popular vote, the ONLY method to do this should be an amendment to the Constitution.
What Thompson is proposing is an agreement (conspiracy) between certain states to have all of their EVs go to the person who wins the popular vote. The agreement would only kick in when states with 270 or more EVs combined agree.
This clearly violates the spirit of the Constitution. Also, I’m not sure how official the national “popluar vote” really is. My understanding is that there are 51 seperate elections (50 states and DC) and the national totals are unofficial.
Also, if a state, say New Jersey, passes a law that says its EVs will go to the national popular vote winner, I’d argue that that there should be no Presidential election in that state, as it has chosen an alternate method for assigning EVs.
For example, if a state decided that the legislature would allocate the EVs or they would flip a coin or whatever, clearly there would be no reason to have an election in that state. If a state’s presidential “election” does not allocate its EV’s there is absolutely no reason for that “election” to take place.
Where are all the FR Thompsonites hiding now?
He was little better than McCain regarding constitutional issues. He helped write and pass Campaign Finance Reform.
Ahhh. Such fond memories of the Thomponsites and their bandwagon on FR during the early part of the 2008 cycle. Some still bring up Thompson as a preferred candidate now.
