A campaign has been launched on Facebook calling for men to beat Saudi women who drive their cars in a planned protest next month against the ultra-conservative kingdom's ban on women taking the wheel.
The call comes as activists are demanding the release of Manal al-Sharif, a Saudi woman who was jailed for defying the ban.
The page, titled "The Iqal Campaign: June 17 for preventing women from driving," refers to the Arabic name for the cord used to hold on the traditional headdress worn by many men in the Gulf, advocating the cord be used to hit women who dare to drive.
It has drawn over 6,000 "likes" on the popular social networking website.
Some on the page proposed distributing boxes of Iqals to youths and encouraging them use them to hit women who participate in the June 17 protest.

I’m disturbed at the characterization of the Saudi’s as “ultra-conservative” as if to say that ultra-conservativism is misogynist.
If they were being honest, they should be saying ultra-conservative Islamists. Ultra-conservative Christians would be a different ballgame altogether, I would think.

STAYING in the left lane? How about yakking about who-knows-what while slowly, inexorably drifting to the right? A couple of horn blasts will wake ‘em up though...no need to beat ‘em!;)

My personal pet peeve. Here in NC, the rule is ‘Slower Traffic Keep Right’. Only once, have I seen it enforced :(
I bet Facebook would shut down a “support Fred Phelps” (Al Gore’s friend) page, but they won’t touch these guys...
The MSM fancies few things more than characterizing radical Islamics as “conservatives.”

Bring this up at the next cocktail party to the feminists there and ask them why we are not invading this country to protect our interests.

I doubt one would find any “COEXIST” stickers in Saudi Arabia.
I laugh whenever I see one of those stickers on a Prius or something. It is usually accompanied by an Obama ‘08 HOPE sticker.
Just wait for the outcry when they ask for the right to vote, and then later, the right sit beside their men in a pub!

Well, I’ve seen more than a few women drivers here in CA that raise the spectre of needing a good beating (but, there’s probably an equal number of male drives too).
