Well I see both sides. Yes it was a worthy gesture but what is muslims decided to put up muslim flags?

If you read the article the head of the electric company offered to pay for the flags. Can’t get any fairer than that
AND by follwoing the state law this might discourage abuse, make others pay the $ 5.00 per flag and idiots will be less likely to put up flags

Michael Hervey, LIPA’s chief operating officer, told Newsday that his company was just following state law. “I don’t think anyone expected this to apply to flags on poles, but if you read the language there’s no way around it,” he told the newspaper. “We welcome any amendment to state legislation that would allow for American flag attachments to our poles without fees.” Hervey even volunteered to personally pay the fees, but Reich said that’s not the point.

“It’s not the fee,” he said. “It’s the principle of the thing. Getting that money out of us is going to be like getting blood out of a stone.”

Flags were also posted on poles owned by Verizon. However, a spokesman for the company said it typically waives fees for commemorative ceremonies and “we intend on waiving it in this case.”

What an idiot! I ran a stop sign a few weeks ago. I meekly told the copper that I knew what did (without making an excuse or asking for special treatment.) He told me not to do it again. Maybe Michael Hervey could look the other way or say that he had read news stories but had no reliable information with which to make the assessment, or he could have quietly paid it out of pocket.

Anti-nuclear activist bankrupted Lilco twenty years ago and made it a ward of the State of New York. That's no reason to take it out on everyone else.

The town should turn around and pass a “utility poll fee” on every utility poll in their jurisdiction for the same amount as the “flag fee”.

“He sacrificed his life to save his platoon and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for his actions.”

No, he was awarded the PH because of wounds sustained while in combat. I have no doubt there was some sort of award for heroism (Bronze Star, Silver Star, etc.), but the PH wasn’t it. Heroes deserve better writing.

Why doesn’t the city return the favor and bill the power company for putting power lines on their flag poles. I’m sure the power company has not paid for the land the poles are on.

To: Doogle; All
...people have to realize, the ACLU can stop or threaten to sue on behalf of an anonymous person, which means they can do this without identifying anyone. NJ has a case right now where graduation ceremonies were scheduled at a hall where...OH MY GOD....a cross is displayed...never mind traditions, never mind the socalled "offended one" doesn't live in the town,or doesn't have anyone graduating from the school in question.....BUT, it offends someone. LET THEM COME FORWARD..IDENTIFY YOURSELF OFFENDED ONE ....or is this a case where the ACLU's agenda is to destroy America from within?
