In a statement released after the president's speech, Thursday, May 19, 2011, Congressman Ron Paul took Barack Obama to task. “Unlike this president, I do not believe it is our place to dictate how Israel runs her affairs."

Ron Paul's statement, released immediately after the speech, reflected the congressman's long held views against American leaders meddling in the affairs of other countries. “Israel is our close friend," the statement reads, "While President Obama’s demand that Israel make hard concessions in her border conflicts may very well be in her long-term interest, only Israel can make that determination on her own, without pressure from the United States or coercion by the United Nations."....

After all that "Ron Paul is anti-Semitic; Ron Paul is anti-Israel" bunk, what other politician is showing the guts to stand up to Obama for Israel?

Not to mention that in his statement, he figured that a 2 stat solution would probably be in Israel’s best interest. no thanks.

I find this hard to believe. He has never been supportive before.

Sarah Palin has always been loud and clear about supporting Israel, while most of Ron Pauls actions/words with respect to Israel can decisively be stated Anti-Israel.

You must be politically tone-deaf not to have noticed this.

National suicide may very well be in Israel's long-term interest. Interesting perspective.

Ron Paul's biggest mistake. If we lose Israel we lose the total far east and our demise will be on the next short list.

I thought Wrong Paul slammed Israel in his book.

Maybe he remembered a Feb. 28 '11 Gallup poll that showed 63% of Americans support Israel.

This is just more of Paul’s isolationist crap. No thanks. He’s jumping on the Israel bandwagon to further his own stupid agenda.

..and to every other country. As he points out, we give $3B to Israel and $12B to her enemies. How is that supportive of Israel?

We haven't had a pro-Israel president in decades. All of them since Clinton, Bush included, have wanted to set up an independent Palestinian State, and that's not pro-Israel no matter how you spin it or how much aid you grant Israel.

The fact is that most of those politicians in the so-called "pro-Israel camp" just want to use Israel to get votes and to hide behind to further American policy in the region so that they can rule the world. Ron Paul has always said that Israeli-Palestinian peace is between them, not us. Israel is a sovereign nation with a right to manage its own foreign policy and it's own borders. Israel may be a friend but it's not the 51st US State and no president has the right to treat it that way -- for good or ill.

This is remarkably consistent of Ron Paul to anyone who has read beyond the MSM headlines and the detractors' BS.

Ron Paul has about as much credibility on Israel as Obama does, so he’s one to talk.

Can you please point out to me where exactly in Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution Congress is authorized to give American taxpayer money to any foreign Government?

You know Obama has jumped the shark regarding Israel when even the anti-Zionist Ron Paul is saying “that was way harsh, dude.”

Until Palin throws her hat into the ring for president, she is a celebrity and not a politician. At the moment she is not elected and she can say whatever she wants because she has nothing to lose. Only when someone has votes to win or lose, can they be called "a politician" in my book.

Lurker, which is better, to go defend Israel with our troops on the ground, or to pay out some funds to curry favor with Isreal’s enemies so we don’t have to?

Both of those are national defense related.

Israel is the only nation on planet earth where Jews are free to live in relative peace, NOT at the whim of various governments.

If you wish to argue that it is not written into our Constitution that we defend Jews, I’ll agree. None the less, I find it admirable that we do. There isn’t another race of people on planet earth that are targeted with destruction to the point that the Jews are. And in response to this, and the realization that the birth of Christianity occurred in Israel, we defend Israel.

Rather than trouble me, it instills pride in me that we do. We are a good people, and this is only part of the reason why.

Ron Paul attacked Obama's pro-Muslim agenda and said something CORRECT about foriegn policy?! Damn, that's the FOURTH time hell froze over this year! The first three times were all during one week in March:

1. Rahm Emanuel agreed with me that cutting the size of the Chicago City Council in half
2. Mark Kirk visited my local region of Illinois
3. France went to war

Maybe this is the start of a second wave of frigid days in hell. Perhaps the next two items will be Pfather Pflakey endorsing Roman Catholic doctrines and Chicago electing a non-criminal.

His statement may be more closely related to America staying out of another government’s business than in being supportive, per se. If so, he’s being consistent. However, the U.S. is not alone in the world and cannot ignore allies and enemies as Ron Paul seems to think we can.
