Senate Republicans have successfully filibustered the nomination of Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The final vote on cloture was 52 to 43, with one Senator (Orrin Hatch of Utah) voting present, well short of the 60 votes required to end a filibuster. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R., Alaska) voted yes, while Sen. Ben Nelson (D., Neb.) voted no. Sens. Bauchus, Hutchison, Moran and Vitter did not vote.
I hope this can help give the GOP more courage for future battles. See, if enough stand together, Obama can be stopped.
Why did Hatch vote present?
Scottish law precedent.

Bye Bye in 2012 primary- we do not need a spineless former best bud of Teddy Kennedy representing us.

My bad slow server
YAY YAY YAY this man does not belong on the court. Such good news!!!!
No problemo..that post is worth repeating 4 times...
It’s a filibuster vote. It doesn’t matter if you vote NO, vote PRESENT, or simply don’t vote at all.
To break a filibuster, there has to be 60 YES votes. Any vote that is not a “YES” is a vote to block, even if you don’t vote at all.
My guess is Hatch, who has stood on principle that the constitution does not allow filibusters, probably figures voting “present” keeps his record on voting for a filibuster intact, while also signalling that he opposes the nominee. But it’s really a no vote.
My opinion is we have to filibuster as many judges as the left did to Bush, until it is “equal”. Then we should go back to never filibustering, because the president deserves to have his nominees get an up or down vote.
And if Bush had gotten votes on ALL of his nominees, it wouldn’t matter that Obama can slip some crazy judges in as well. THe problem is that there are so many vacancies because the democrats blocked the votes, and letting Obama appoint people to those judgeships just rewards the democrats.
WE WON THIS ONE!!!!! Goodwin Liu was so radical, even Mark Kirk, Scott Brown, and the Maine Twins voted against him.
Thanks for the ping. Excellent. Now maybe the freaking Repubs will realize they don’t have to kowtow to Zero and his fellow leftists.
Shocking...postively shocking.
Good news indeed. It’s still tragic that this is only the first one we were able to derail.
But, if the bag limit was only one, this was the one to bag.
Word is that Liu was in line to be Obama's next Supreme Court nominee. In which case, he could've single-handedly destroyed the republic. With malice intent...
A Leftist is a Leftist, no matter where he is on the spectrum. He would be no more destructive on the US Supreme Court that the "Wise Latina" or the Anti-military "Dyke." The result would be the same.
Yes, I'm glad he was defeated. But there is just another anti-American Marxist in the wings - perhaps just a bit less provocative in order to pass RINO muster, but just as destructive.
Thank God. I was terrified they would not block him.
She will get what she deserves, as will we all.
Because he’s a RINO....!!!
