Did the subconscious mind of Newt Gingrich sabotage his campaign?
Washington Examiner ^ | May 17, 2011 | P.J. Gladnick

Was the presidential campaign of Newt Gingrich sabotaged by his own subconscious mind?  In the wake of the spectacular blunder on last Sunday’s “Meet The Press” in which Gingrich criticized House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisc.) Medicare proposal as being “too big a jump,” one has to wonder.

Gingrich seems to be too intelligent to purposely make such a gaffe.  So why did he do it?  The best answer your humble correspondent can come up with is that even though Gingrich desires to become president on a conscious level, his subconscious mind wants to protect him from public embarrassment by quickly destroying his presidential campaign before it has a chance to really take off.

"Gingrich seems to be too intelligent to purposely make such a gaffe."

"Seems" being the operative word in that phrase. Newt's an educated dolt, plain and simple.

Establishment Republicans will do anything to maintain their control of the party. Thus, an opportunity to diss Ryan and his plan will be taken. Newt’s hubris made him believe he’s above it all.

I have a simpler explanation:

Newt "Meet the Press" Plan: Go Left and scoop up the McCain vote in the primaries. He won last time didn't he?

Newt "Meet the Press" Result: Well that didn't work out very well, did it? Maybe losing the support of conservatives is not the way to win the nomination. Better apologize to Paul Ryan and try to get myself out of this mess.

One can hope. Even if Newt were running as a conservative, he is yesteryear’s retread. We need a younger, fresh face to defeat 0bama at the polls.

Newt’s rules for candidates:

1.) ‘Open mouth, insert foot.’

Let’s bury that intelligent label. Besides being way over played it does not apply. He has the Joe Biden disease.

Juan McCain won the nomination because the GOP insists on using open primaries in its early contests. It doesn't help that New Hampshire and Iowa aren't exactly conservative bastions either.

Sadly, this strategery might actually work for Newt.

Proof positive that Gingrich is a liberal - the media treats him with kid gloves and keeps mentioning the following personal attributes: his intelligence, his brilliance, his being a college professor, he’s an idea man, etc. etc.

"...his subconscious mind wants to protect him from public embarrassment..."

His subconscious mind is failing him miserably.

I lived in Gingrich’s old district until I moved to FL in ‘93 and, whether it is the subconscious mind or just diarrhea of the mouth, he has had that same problem for years.

An alligator mouth overloading a tweety bird behind is one way of putting it.

Newt is like Dole and McCain, without all the charismatic excitement.

He’s a blowhard attention whore. A pathetic creature who was useful for a time; long, long, ago.

Newt blew it when he did a “Brave Sir Robin” imitation and got hounded out of the Congress without a fight for doing a He’ll of a lot less than Pelosi.

“Even if Newt were running as a conservative, he is yesteryear’s retread.”

Agreed. His opportunity was actually in ‘08. Then, I was hoping he would run. However, his staggers and lurches to the left since that time make me very glad he did not run. At this point, he is among a number of spoiled leftovers at the back of the refrigerator which need to be tossed out, and will be.

Newt does know a great deal about the health care issue. I don’t think he was subconsciously sabotaging himself. He was being competitive with Ryan. Trying to sound presidential, but he misjudged what the results of his comments would be. He forgot the personal and political in his eagerness to make a point and show how much he knew.

Newt betrayed everyone when he was in Congress - read Tom Coburn’s “Breach of Trust” - The reason Newt didn’t run again had more to do with the exposure of his affair with his staffer (to whom he is now married). Really, I think this is all about the money. Some people will be convinced enough to send Newt contributions to his campaign. These war chests for people who have no hope of winning seems to be the real goal.

Once again - my fellow Americans, beware of anyone the Press promotes in a positive light. This is all about bringing America down.

That may explain why he took up global warming as an issue, made a TV ad with Nancy Pelosi, and endorsed Dede Scozzafava for Congress.

Newt has always tried to find his own perch, one that is inches above the rest. I think, he was was trying, as he always does, differentiate himself by sounding brainy, as though his reasoning skills are far superior than anyone else's who may be in ear-shot of his voice.

He is so concerned that he appear more reasoned and rational, that he can't see the forrest for the trees, which is why he would be a disaster as a president. He needs a classroom full of pupils upon which to pontificate. Paul Ryan is not a college student, and neither is the world at large. Newt, go back to "think-tanking", let us know what you come up with, if we like it, we might us it.
