With Huckabee Out, No Clear GOP Front-Runner
Gallup ^ | 5/17/11 | Frank Newport

Posted on 05/17/2011 3:16:59 PM PDT by Kartographer

With Mike Huckabee out of the race for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, three well-known politicians, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, and Newt Gingrich, emerge as leaders in Republicans' preferences. Republicans, however, have less intensely positive feelings about these three than they did about Huckabee. Two less well-known potential candidates, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain, generate high levels of enthusiasm among Republicans who recognize them.

All other candidates and potential candidates Gallup tracks have name recognition below 50%. Only one of them, Cain, creates strong enthusiasm among those who recognize him.

"Only one of them, Cain, creates strong enthusiasm among those who recognize him."

Strong enthusiasm among supports doesn't guarantee anything. Ask the supporters of Ron Paul.

>>> With Huckabee Out, No Clear GOP Front-Runner

This reminds me a little of the year 2009, national media frantically searching for a clear Tea Party Leader.....

Enthusiasm can do wonders Obama used it to beat Hillary and McCain both. It’s not just the enthusiasm, but as much about who its’ for!

Yes, like him or not, Huck was good for 20%. In a crowded field, that puts him as a front runner.

Newt has been committing hara kiri all week, I'm thinking he's just about done now.

Mitt did that years ago when he pushed and signed Romney care, he just doesn't know it yet. Blood on the floor, he just has poor eyesight.

Palin/Cain would be fine with me..........the door is wide open. Bambi's going down in 2012.

Obama is far better than having some jerk RINO in there.

Thank God that McCain didn’t win!

Very interesting observation. Tell ya the truth, it’s beginning to creep ME out a little bit. I mean, it ain’t gonna be Polenti and it ain’t gonna be Mooch Daniels, so who is it going to be? Herman Cain? The field is going to melt away for him? That might be great, but I gotta think we ain’t seen nothin yet. Or maybe we have. Lousy candidate last time, nobody on the bench for this time... If the entire republican party can’t drum up a decent, charismatic, photogenic candidate who has the belly for the wet work, then we’re going to be stuck with the obomb for a long long time.

Huckabigot had little support last time either except for “anybody but McCain or Romney” votes.

A Chicago talk radio host predicted yesterday a Romney/Huckabee ticket. He said that was why Huck got out—the deal had been made. Romney would need the Conservative/Christian voters that Huck would attract. (WTF??) This is not looking good to me. I don’t see anyone who has the strength of personality to attract enough “moderates” to win. Focus on winning the Senate to stop Obama’s agenda for another four years..Obamacare has to go!

“Thank God that McCain didn’t win!”

The same crap that is being done to this nation now, would be done under the auspices of a Republican POTUS and you would be defending it.

"random samples of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents"

Who cares what GOP leaning independents think? They can't vote in a primary.

Gallup, how about you poll only Republicans in the next GOP PRIMARY poll?
