If they can't make it through high school, maybe they're too stoopid to drive.

First it was dead beat parents.
Now we’ll have dead beat students!

Maybe they are not too stupid. This looks like another way to fix a societal problem with legislation. Taking a kid who is already having trouble, and denying him the right to transport himself even to the burger flipping job doesn’t sound very farsighted to me.

“If they can’t make it through high school, maybe they’re too stupid to drive”.
We are talking about taking away a privilege based on nothing but a high school degree. Not too many points, driving while intoxicated etc... What’s next? No driver license if you don’t have a college degree? No driver’s license if you aren’t currently employed? This is insanity.

Some students are better off working for a couple of years, so they mature.
I really don’t see the advantage of forcing somebody to be there if they don’t want to and aren’t going to accomplish anything while there.

Strange law.
Emancipated adults have lost more rights since the Civil Rights movement than one would have thought.
If the kid drops out, and emancipates himself from his parents, and is therefor an adult in the eyes of the law, how can the state justify denying him the privilege to drive to and from work to be self sustaining individual?
There are similar laws in other spheres of our lives (up until recently), in some states a minor child could not get individual health insurance, however if the child was of age and filed papers with the court to become emancipated, he/she could then acquire health insurance.
Law was another do-gooder scheme to prevent parents from buying insurance just for the child and not the adults in the family group, however it caused huge problems for divorced and separated families where one guardian paying child support lived out of state or overseas, while the custodial guardian didn’t want to buy health insurance for herself.. so the kid ended up without insurance.

It's not about education.
It's not about driving.
It's not about jobs.
It's about control.

There is a reason they are doing this. Follow the money.
Fewer kids in school means less money from Uncle Sugar.

That makes sense... The can't make through school so you don't give them licenses so they can't go out and get minimum wage jobs.....

A better law would be to make high school optional if a student could read and write at a basic level, as well as do math up to algebra.

I think we should not allow anyone still in school to drive at all, unless they can prove that they work at least 30 hours a week. That would include college students. Teachers should not be allowed to drive to school, the parking lots should be very small. They could be required to live in the school district, and ride the bus like every other student or employee. This should be no problem making it a law, since students and teachers are probably the number one supporters of "saving our planet". Just think of the number of cars that would take off of the road. The teachers could then interact with students on a more "real" level, and the kids would know where they live. That would make it so much easier for them to "come over" when they need help with homework.
Seriously, have you ever noticed how busy the roads are in the summer, or on weekends, as opposed to during school hours?

Trend: Dropouts might lose drivers licenses Unfortunately, it won't stop them from driving. It hasn't seemed to stop the illegal aliens from crashing into us.

So you end up with a bunch of students that the only reason they are hanging around school is to keep their license. I don't think that they would promote much of a learning environment.

That is ridicoulus. There are plenty of people that didn’t finish high school out there being very successful running businesses.
I know of several people running businesses who went back and got their GED years later. This is just another control freak idea from the government.
“You must finish a degree through our schools, or you won’t be allowed to lead a life at all.” I hope people fight this for all they’re worth.
