Want to really tick off your boss? Hand in sloppy work.

An Accountemps survey of 1,400 chief financial officers showed that 41% cited lack of attention to detail or sloppy work as the thing that annoyed them the most.

"Having to constantly double-check someone else's work is a sure recipe for tension between coworkers," said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps and author of "Human Resources Kit For Dummies, 2nd Edition" (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.). "The success of any team depends on everyone carrying his or her weight."

Gossip and office politics also got the CFOs' dander up.

Messmer acknowledged that some office politics are inevitable but advised workers to avoid it.

As a former boss I could care less about the gossip and showing up late as long as people were getting their jobs done. My number one annoyance was bringing a bad attitude to work.

Bookmarked for later listing of stuff I did to my techno-illiterate and subtley racist boss to annoy the guy.

Was periodically yelling “I’d hit it!!” on the list of employers’ pet peeves?

And I thought you were still trapped in cyberspace. :p

My favorite is to hit a bunch of keyboard keys at random extremely fast, simulate hitting "Enter" by hitting "Space" EXTREMELY hard, then evilly cackling. Kinda of like I do when I post on FR.

Makes my coworkers jumpy for the rest of the day. (evil smile)

Isn't that kinda what they do on movies to simulate a hacker? Some guy with glasses types furiously for about 15 seconds, looks up, and declares "I'm in."

I'm the same way...if the work's getting done and getting done right, my employees don't hear any griping from me.

I don't micromanage. I find that a happy staff that is treated with respect is a productive staff.

I also don't believe in asking my employees to work any harder than I do. I get right there in the trenches with them.

I learned most of my management style from some of the bad bosses I had in the past - learned what not to do.

You and I would get along great. When I have a new mid-level staffer I make sure they see me emptying the trash, making coffee etc. It makes it much easier later on when I need to ask them to do something that’s “beneath” them.

And thanks for curing my allergies since the Claritin quit working. I thought I was going to die last week.
