Texas Guv Spokesperson: Border Briefing Declined Because ‘We’re Living it Every Day’
michelle malkin ^ | 5/11/11 | Doug Powers

Translation: We don’t need people who live 1500 miles away telling us what’s going on under our noses:

Gov. Rick Perry (who had plans with a friend today) wasn’t willing to travel all the way to El Paso to meet President Obama on the tarmac, his spokeswoman said after the White House noted the governor declined a meeting.

Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger said the governor asked whether he could instead meet the president on the Austin tarmac.

She said the White House nixed that idea and also refused a wildfire tour, saying the president’s schedule was too busy.

As for Perry declining a past National Security Council briefing on the border, the governor’s staff said that’s right on target.

”The last thing the governor needs is a briefing about what is happening on the border,” Cesinger said. “We know exactly what is happening. It’s not secure, and we need more federal resources. …. We’re living it every day. It’s in our backyard.”

What do Republicans want, a moat filled with alligators? In any case, by refusing to be briefed by the administration’s border security team, Rick Perry’s totally blowing his chance to meet Eva Longoria (update: or meet her again, I should say).

Speaking of President Obama’s visit to the border, the flag of a particular country provided a symbolic backdrop to his visit.

A moat filled with alligators won’t work; Nile crocodiles would work quite well.

I wonder why Perry isn’t running? I guess he was believed when he said no?

A lot here on FR criticize “Governor Rick” for being a RINO. Yes, he has supported some bone head things in the past. Corridor, Yggdrasil and Rudy for Pres. But is not not a Leftie, he does not suck up to Oboz and I really like it that his makes no pretense of working with the Lying Commie Muzzie who sleeps at 1600 Penn. Ave.

I love seeing him effectively fly Obozo the bird.

FUBO! Don't mess with Texas

I assume that by “running” you refer to the Presidential election.

As a Texan, I would hope that he’s not running because he is politically astute enough to realize how much negative baggage he carries.

Perry looks good, sounds good, and speaks well. He is also not to be trusted, at all.

He keeps winning because his opposition is even worse than he is.

“He keeps winning because his opposition is even worse than he is.”

So, why isn’t he running?

So Texas can burn to the ground as far as Obama is concerned. As long as he can swoop in and pick up his cash.

Not too busy for politicking......too busy for things that matter.

Two points. First, the Rio Grande is pretty much a “moat.” Secondly, it probably already harbors at least a few alligators. So much for that idea.

“I wonder why Perry isn’t running? I guess he was believed when he said no?”

Because he’s crappy. We have HUGE majorities in the state House and Senate, but he REFUSES to join the fight necessary to actually change the rules a bit (which is VERY easy) to allow real laws to get passed. Sure, he’s allowed a few (like Voter ID, which is good), but there is MUCH MORE that could be done...but isn’t, because the State Senate, for example, needs 21 votes (out of 30) to advance a bill, but the Republicans only have 19 votes. All it would have a taken was a rule change at the beginning of the term, but he WOULD NOT press for it.

He sucks, and is about to let a HUGE Republican majority virtually go to waste here.
