Senate GOP allows judicial confirmation of ex-Planned Parenthood director

As so often seem to be the case, the GOP doesn’t follow the Democratic playbook when it comes to obstruction. They caved when it came to a vote last week on the nomination of Jack McConnell as a US District Court Judge. He’s only 52 or 53, so we can look forward to decades of his rulings.

Among the items on his resume are being the unpaid director of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island and being involved in successful tobacco litigation, for which he’s still due to receive $2-3M/year for another 13 years. He’s been a trial lawyer for 25 years.

It’s not difficult to figure out what we can expect in terms of his judicial philosophy.

The bulk of the Senate GOP did not cave, just a few RINOs that went along with the Dems on a cloture vote.

What a surprise. Like a broken record with these RINO’s handing things to Rats. Thank you Sarah Palin for convincing the voters of AZ that McLame was a so much more a real Conservative than JD. Really paying dividends.

John Thune? I thought he was a good Christian. His brother was a Pastor of one of the largest churches here in Omaha. Is South Dakota turning blue? Why is Thune giving this guy the ok? I've sent him money. No more & I will be emailing him asking why.

Senator Thune,

I have sent you money in the past for your campaign, so I feel I deserve an answer to a question. Why did you go along with the Dems on a cloture vote for Jack McConnell as a US District Court Judge. He’s only 52 or 53, so we can look forward to decades of his rulings. We could have stopped him before he started. I don't understand and I don't like games being played in government. (You scratch my back I'll scratch yours) We can't let them have an inch when it comes to our judges. They are making more laws than congress & we know that is not the way it should be. Please explain.

As far as I’m concerned, her ONLY mistake. And she’s making up for it. The unfortunate part is that we (like her) expect heroes to have a modicum of brains, or at least an integrity that bleeds into other areas. Forget it; heroes can be as dumb as shrubs.

Linda Frances,

I was unopposed in both the primary and general election campaigns of 2010, so if you sent me money after my 2004 election, I used it to help elect RINOs like Mark Kirk, John McCain and Lisa Murkowski, by funding them over decent conservatives. If you disagree with my long-standing record of supporting liberal Republicans, you should have read up on what my PAC was doing before you sent me money.

Regarding playing games in government and the “you scratch my back I'll scratch yours” philosophy, I have been a long time proponent of this method of governing. My record in office since defeating Tom Daschle has been mediocre. I have repeatedly shown that although I usually vote conservative, I always place pork over principle. Look at my track record. I defended the TARP bailouts and said we should continue to be “bipartisan” with Obama after he shoved Obamacare down our throats. I was part of the gang of 10 with John McCain. During the John Bolton debate, I was one of only two Republicans (the other was George Voinvoich) who sided with the Dems and helped them kill his nomination. Why? Because I wanted to hold the government hostage and screw over George W. Bush until I got federal funding for an unused military base in South Dakota. And yet my fan club here on FR is shocked that I’d sell you out on other issues? Please explain.

With Daschle out of the way, South Dakota is pretty much safe GOP. Yet after repeatedly selling you guys out during my first term, many freepers not only wanted to guarantee a second term for me, but I was a hot prospect for President! Amazing! Why were freepers giving me the ok? Especially those of you who claim we should “focus on electing principled conservatives in our red states.”. Why is it “treasonous” for Lindsey Graham to kill McCain’s butt but I’m a “reaganesque rising Republican star” when I do so? There was no excuse for my actions during my first term but last November you guys rubber stamped me for a second, so now I am free to stab Republicans in the back for the next six years.

Yours Truly,

Senator John Thune

Our wonderful GOP senators from Georgia: Johnny Isakson once ran on an abortion-rights platform and only switched sides to catch a few social-conservative votes. Saxby Chambliss is a caricature of the good-ole-boy back-scratcher. The judge’s cousin probably probably promised Saxby a free dinner if he put his useless relative permanently on the federal dole.
