A leading Republican on the House oversight committee is demanding answers from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on why a 6-year-old girl was given an “enhanced” pat-down at an airport by TSA agents, an incident Napolitano defended as conducted “professionally and according to the protocols.”
A video of the incident was posted on YouTube April 9 by the 6-year-old Anna Drexel’s parents, provoking outrage. Napolitano backed the procedure, and a blog post by the TSA said, “TSA has reviewed the incident and the security officer in the video followed the current standard operating procedures.”
But Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations Subcommittee on the oversight panel, says TSA has publicly stated that children younger than 13 years old are exempt from enhanced pat-downs.
“I am still failing to see how the [officer's] actions followed TSA’s publicly stated policy that children under the age of 13 are exempt from enhanced pat-downs and are to receive modified treatment. If the department has indeed conducted a thorough review of the incident, then I ask that it immediately produce its step-by-step analysis and findings to this subcommittee,” Chaffetz says in a May 5 letter to Napolitano.

I remember the guy from TSA testifying before a congressional committee that children younger than 13 would not be subjected to this groping abuse by the TSA goons. I wondered why this had occurred?

The saddest part of all of this, aside from the scars on the 6 years old’s psyche, is the fact that grown-ups in charge of a national security apparatus see nothing wrong with “patting down” 6 year old girls in the name of security.

People had better wake up. The government is getting more evil by the day. I personally think the whole Ben Laden thing is a fraud. The American citizens are being treated like the terrorist. The borders are wide open, but Janet Napolitano and the TSA are molesting U.S. citizens.
Much of the country does not travel by air, but now they’re talking about doing this at bus stations, stores, and shopping malls? There is going to be a backlash.
This is criminal. Do they think real men are going to just stand by and watch uniformed goons put their hands between their wives and kids legs, and be groped? This craziness must stop.
The thing I love is that he seemed to feel it was OK to feel up a 13 or 14 year old girl. Girls that age are very vulnerable. The whole thing is sickening. It needs to be stopped. If you go through a metal detector and a wanding and you don’t set off any bells thats enough already. Its bad enough that you already took off your shoes, belt, jewelry etc and put it in a bin.
You expect Frau Nazipolitano to throw her Kapos under the bus? How else do you expect her to keep the rest of us in line?
Agreed. Put a few of these TSAers behind bars for molestation, and the jackboots will reconsider.
The “average” person doesn’t know about this kind of crapola because it doesn’t get reported in the LSM.
My (almost) 13yo daughter is aware of it only because her father and I are aware and we actually do discuss it in front of her — she also listens to the same talk radio and we do.
Last fall when we first started talking about going to see my father and aunt in Florida for Christmas one of the first things she asked was if she she going to have to go through security in the airport. We assured her she wouldn’t because we would be driving.
Arrest the SOBs for molestation -— it’s the only way to stop it.
