Someone needs to explain the First Rule of Holes to the Obama administration. Military and intelligence professionals executed an important mission brilliantly, carrying out their assigned task of killing Osama bin Laden and dumping his body into the ocean. Ever since, the administration has undercut the professionals' achievement with a succession of now-inoperative accounts of the raid's climactic moments.
First we had John Brennan spinning a tale about bin Laden blazing away at the SEALs while using his wife--now deceased--as a human shield. Every detail of that story turned out to be false. Then the administration claimed that it looked as though Osama was reaching for a gun, so the SEALs had to shoot him. Next, the theory was that Osama was clothed, not naked, so he could have had a bomb under his clothes and had to be shot. Another iteration emerged this afternoon, as an administration official told AFP that guns were found in the room where Obama was shot, so he was a threat to the SEALs:
US Navy SEALs who led a raid on Osama bin Laden's compound found an AK-47 and a pistol in his room, a US official told AFP Thursday, offering more details about the operation.
"He had weapons in his room, more than one," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "He was not compliant. He did not surrender," the official said. ...
Given the possible threats, the gunfire from the courier and Bin Laden's reputation, "the team made the right decision."
All of these narratives--apart from the disadvantage, in some instances, of being untrue--share a common defect. They assume that the SEALs are in the dock as accused murderers, and need to be seen as acting in self-defense. This is ridiculous. The SEALs may have acted in "national self defense," the doctrine that Eric Holder articulated to the Senate Judiciary Committee. But in the immediate context of the raid on bin Laden's compound, the SEALs were not defending themselves. They were on the attack, as they needed to be to carry out their orders. Whether bin Laden was shooting at them, reaching for a gun, clothed or naked, or in the same room with a weapon is irrelevant.
The SEALs went into Pakistan to kill bin Laden, and succeeded brilliantly. The administration needs to forget about self-defense and stand behind the orders it gave the military.

Then what the hell were they watching in the WH? Did they see the raid, the shootings, or what? If they were watching the whole thing, why did they need the KIA message?
The problem is that they do not believe in what they just did....like a child caught with his hands in the cookie jar, they must now justify their actions to the hippie anti war pro animal constituents they represent....expect the childish drug induced behavior to continue..
Ah, there's the rub. He can't do that, because the vast majority of his supporters are leftists. Besides baby-killing, this is the major issue he can't break with them. No matter what, he can't be seen as supporting the troops other than by ordering their immediate return to their US bases.
The author is correct to point out Obama and Company are acting as if they need to defend our guys in a court of law. This is poignant because at this moment, Holder is preparing to prosecute some Special Ops guys for giving an AQ suspect a fat lip.
Once the team entered the concrete buildings their video and some of the audio feed went a away. So the people at the WH and Pentagon and CIA were watching shots from outside the buildings..with flashes and gunfire.
They were guessing at what went on inside...and yes there was a lot of gunfire.
Please people use your heads. Concrete buildings with iron re-enforcement don’t transmit radio signals well. Some comes via the windows..but that isn’t reliable.
Brennan was just guessing when he spoke and it was a terrible mistake..but we all already knew he was an idiot.
I don’t care if he was standing up with his d**k in his hand, he deserved to be ventilated.
I'm not a big fan of the communist in our White House either, but isn't that a bit harsh? My preference would be that we vote the thug out in 2012 and then dismantle every program approved under the druggie's regime. As for Osama, I'm okay with your idea.
“If Obama did not present himself as a threat, he should have been taken into custody, tortured for all the information that could possibly could have been gotten out of him, and then hung by the neck until dead in Times Square.”
Just had to see that again. ;-)
LOL
But Obama has changed his views on:
- Gitmo
- Military trials vs. Civil trials
- Indefinite Detention
- The Patriot Act
Hope and Change.
