President Obama, who aims to avoid offending the Arab Street by withholding the photo of a dead Osama bin Laden, seems to care little about offending the American Street.
Here's how Obama explains concealing the photo in question:
"It is important to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool...We don't trot out this stuff as trophies...The fact of the matter is, this is somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received...We don't need to spike the football...given the graphic nature of these photos it would create a national security risk."
In the meantime, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) says we don't need to see the photos. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary concur. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has no opinion, one way or the other. There's leadership for you.
The meta-message here is that we who walk the American Street are children, to be lectured by our all-knowing parents, told that, "You kids don't need to see this. It's only for us adults. It's too gruesome, and it'll make the people who liked the dead man mad at us for what we've done to him." This is told to Americans who are deluged daily by Hollywood, TV News, and videogame images of graphic gruesomeness.
Follow that logic, and TV news outlets, at the insistence of the Bush administration, should have censored the photos and films of the Twin Towers falling down. Blackened out those small, horrific images of people jumping off the top of burning buildings. And secured a court injunction to prohibit the New York Times, always sensitive of the American Street, from distributing photos of mortally wounded

Obama is making a pretty darn good show about NOT offending Islam, I guess all that crap about birtherism, Natural Born Citizen was just a bunch of crap.

This is a sorry day. I am sickened and repulsed at Obama, for the 1st time, showing up at Ground Zero for a photo op and speech.
He and his stinky wife haven’t paid a bit of attention, nor have they shown any respect for Americans on 9/11, ever.
He is shame and he is an embarrassment.
We all watched people jump to their deaths from the Towers live on TV, so I think we can handle the photo of the man that caused it with his head blown open.
Obama knew for two years that his brother was living in that house. Yet he dithered until he needed a mission to prove he is a real American. After two years he gives the go ahead.
Then he worries about the consequences. He has seen the photographs-but in true despotic form decides “You can’t handle it.” What contempt he has for the American People.
I agree with Dr.Bill Bennett on Morning in America the photographs ought be published.Ollie North had a good point as well—but except for the tactical training point- I disagree.

Trump has totally unnerved Obama I believe, and should Obama again start coming under scrutiny say for his lack of credentials to be POTUS I wonder what next stunt he will use for diversion.
We must not allow ourselves to be slack with exposing Obama at his usurpation of the Whitehouse.
Our enemy's war against us has never been tactical or strategic-it has been symbolic. We have the good fortune that, though all of our actions have been framed in defensive and even altruistic terms, the culturally juvenile "Arab Street" has seen it all as punitive and retaliatory. This is a very good thing, and we should take advantage of it. This is War 101, and even in the Bush years we wouldn't seize the opportunities to win on the real battlefield on which this war is being waged.
Time to cash in on some political points. Ground Zero will make a wonderful prop.
Something is so not right about the whole Bin Laden kill story. First, when we heard about Osama quickly buried at sea, my wife and I both looked at each other with a collective, WTH? Way too convenient to say you took him out and immediately disposed of the body.
No official photos released while Senator’s say they were shown fakes?
Reports from the Obama administration are all over the map.
Democrats know the exact whereabouts of Bin Laden for 7 months and do nothing? Come on! They have been playing this political card since 9-11 against Bush and they would have cashed in ASAP.
A week after Obama releases a birth certificate that raised alot more questions than it answered, boom! Bin Laden’s dead!

The refusal to release the photo makes no sense what-so-ever. Our money paid for this raid and we are not serfs yet. Does anyone else wonder whether this photo, perhaps, does not even look like OBL, aside from the wounds? Just musing....
Didn’t we hear years ago that OBL had received plastic surgery?
Of course, we also heard from a number of military “experts” that he was dead since Tora Bora.
So much confusion, so little time.

I find it interesting, as well, that our former Presidents, Bush and Clinton, have declined to join Obama today at Ground Zero. I don’t blame them for not wanting to be involved in a situation where the American people are being denied the proof of success which, evidently, exists but is being denied.
Plastic surgery would have been an option for someone with his money..Also, he could have dyed and trimmed his beard..
The changing stories from the WH have not expelled the murkiness of all this..So many questions, all being covered by forced political correctness toward the people who hate us.
There were even stories a while back about OBL looking into some sort of surgery to take a couple inches off his freakish-—by Arab standards-—height.
That is the same reaction my husband and I had. They may have sent a team in there, but we really haven’t, and won’t hear from any Seals. Were they really Seals? Who knows?
Truth is, I think Osama has been dead for years. I think they went in and came out of there with someone, but was it Bin Laden? No pictures, no body, no nothing. Just Obama’s word. That means nothing from a serial liar. How many stories have we heard now? Geesh it is ridiculous.
Obama needed a poll bump, not to mention this alone will give him the chance to please his far left base by pulling out of Afghanistan before the elections.
What would be nice is if the nitwits on our side would shut up and let Obama spin his tale. They need to quit helping him.
