President Obama says he decided not to release photos of Osama bin Laden’s corpse because they could put national security at risk and serve “as a propaganda tool” for extremists.
“We don't trot out this stuff as trophies,” Obama said in an interview with “60 Minutes,” according to a transcript read by White House press secretary Jay Carney at his briefing on Wednesday. “I think Americans and people around the world are glad that he is gone. But we don't need to spike the football.”
Obama said in the interview that DNA testing and facial analysis confirmed that bin Laden had been killed in the Sunday raid in Pakistan, and that making public “very graphic photos of someone shot in the head” would serve to inflame enemies’ passions.

There has been too much detail already. When you hear about a SEAL mission, you can be sure of a few things; You didn’t hear it from a SEAL or anyone who cares about the safety of our brothers in arms or the success of future missions.

But - as many FReepers have said (and I agree) - It’s only a matter of hours before the photo’s are leaked.
