The search for Tuscaloosa's missing
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) - Nearly one week after a dreadful tornado punched a hole directly through Tuscaloosa, search and recovery crews are struggling to pinpoint the whereabouts of at least 240 people.
The number was updated from more than three hundred, Monday. Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox says he is holding out hope and praying, but in his heart he is worried that as more time passes the number of fatalities in Tuscaloosa will grow.
Officials explain that the actual number of missing people in Tuscaloosa is constantly changing because as soon as they are able to clear a name off their lists, they add another.
Currently, the city reports 240 missing after clearing 771 names and they are doing everything in their power to clear more.
There are 11 search and rescue teams currently on the ground in Tuscaloosa including two teams of 60 from Louisiana, the Cadaver Teams and the Corp of Engineers Debris Demolition Team.

It is hard to believe that that number of people are still unaccounted for. It is likely many have left the area and are staying with friends or relatives and haven’t notified authorities, but sadly some could still be buried under the debris.
One of my kids lives in Tuscaloosa. She tells me that most of this statistic comes from family and friends reporting a person missing and when that person turns up, they don’t think to let the authorities know. I hope that is the case for the vast bulk of these people.
Sad..very sad..in rural areas..bodies could be anywhere...Remember, that was a very powerful storm..picked up cars..a 150 lb human could be carried for miles....the storm was on the ground a long time...I’ll predict that over the next few years, you’ll have continual stories of remains being found all over the area..
But all the news was about a single powerplant... :-(
Dumb@$$ liberal media!!
There must be 50 ways to leave....
