Michael Savage made quite an issue today about this very issue. He asked if it makes sense Obama didn't reach for a weapon the moment he knew the compound was under assault. He also cited reports that there were no security forces on site and asked if that made sense.

In both cases, assuming the second is true, my response is "no".

In time a number of questions about this operation are sure to emerge. These are a start.

I assume you mean security for UBL. The reason he would not have a large bodyguard would be a large entourage would have blown his security. A compound being patrolled by armed guards would have brought suspicion from intelligence agencies from around the world. In order to hide, the compound could not appear out of the ordinary. It is possible to hide in the open. A guy in my hometown was a wiseguy on the lam from the FBI, he actually walked out of a minimum security prison. Law enforcement never caught him. For years he lived in a secret room in the basement of his own house. It did him no good thou, because about 10 years after, the police found him stuffed in a drum with two bullets in the back of his head.
An interesting supposition is that his slow communications led to his watery grave. About a week ago, a wikileaks release named the courier. UBL was without any modern communications for security reasons, and had to rely on couriers. By the time he could of learned of this release it was too late.
